An unexpected gem! Interesting insects, and friendly, knowledgeable staff (who will let you hold the insects). And the butterfly garden is a perfect piece of heaven. I could have stayed there all day, it was so peaceful, colorful, beautiful. There is even kennel space available for your dog while you visit. Must see if you're in the Deer Lake area.

Went to the Insectarium twice while in Newfoundland this summer with my husband. Went last summer with my daughter who teaches 3rd grade. We all had fun, enjoyed the young docents, and found lots of things to take home to family in Virginia. The owners are personable and very helpful.

We stopped here on a whim not really expecting a lot but it was great. The butterfly garden was wonderful and the upper floor was very interesting. the staff was knowledgeable and very willing to let you hold the bugs up there. I learned things that amazed me and we spent longer there that we thought we would. It has... More

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the guides well-informed and happy to take the time to share their knowledge and answer all questions. Fascinating to see the variety of insects on display and, for the more adventurous, fun to have the opportunity to hold live specimens. The butterfly enclosure was particularly thrilling. We arrived on Canada Day and were... More

We stopped on a lark, and it turned out to be one of the real highlights of our two weeks in Newfoundland! Strategically located off the Trans-Canada, well-organized, and intelligently conceived, this venue imparts a real educational and conservation message, while managing to remain fun for the kids. The young guides are bright, intelligent, and motivated, and took real time... More

We are welcomed by staff that is friendly and helpful. The entry is $13 per person. Our greeter, Matthew, explains how the building is organized and shows us some of the cocoons and chrysalises sent every other week from the Philippines and Costa Rica. It's fascinating! We decide to visit the Butterfly Garden first. It contains 600 to 800 butterflies... More

Let me start by saying that my friend and I aren't familiar with the island. We were out in Bonne Bay, and decided to call in - make sure the insectarium was still open. We got there just a few minutes before close, and staff were so friendly and accommodating... Truly amazing customer service! To top it off, the insectarium... More

Not to be missed is the insectarium near Deer Lake. We spent fascinating hours there and will return on our next visit. Excellent displays, extremely helpful staff, bright and cheerful surroundings. Great way to spend a half day.

The butterfly pavilion is excellent! There are hundreds of butterflies that fly right in front of, and even on you. The staff were great, the owner admitted us even though we arrived at closing and let us stay for over an hour after the place was closed to make sure we could experience everything.

The Insectarium is a really exciting place. From the moment you walk in to the minute you leave, it's just so much fun!! Lloyd and his staff (Mathew and Mark) were terrific!! You can interact with the butterflies and there's lots, they are so beautiful!! The various insects (you are allowed to hold some of them) are really interesting. A... More
