I grew up in a town just over from that and I still visit the lighthouse as much as possible when I go home to visit. I am on the shorter side but the stairs make me feel huge lol. Its interesting to see how people lived back then. Always a happy memory to revisit.

We went up to the cape later in the afternoon and it was foggy as it often is in Nfld. The views off the cliffs are a little intimidating at dusk but nevertheless extremely exciting. The whole area around the lighthouse is wild and untamed. Talk a drive down a ways and you will see wild horses and gorgeous views... More

We had a nice drive out to the lighthouse where John Cabot came ashore for the English crown. He was Italian. Somewhat desolate and rainy which created an wonderful atmosphere.

Don't miss it! Interesting history of the lighthouse, the area, and the lighthouse keepers before modernization.

We visited the lighthouse on the recommendation of Keith from Puffins Landing and were glad we did. The scenery is breathtaking in the walk up to the lighthouse and surrounding trails. As seems to be the norm in this area, it's quite windy so wearing a windbreaker is a good idea plus a hair elastic for those with long hair.... More

Enjoyed the tour of the lighthouse. This lighthouse was the best there was in its day. Was able to see how the light keepers family lived in the period.

Great hiking trails. One of few tourist sites of this nature with washrooms. Amazing views from hiking trails. Moderate exercise

Boavista Lighthouse is interesting in a number of ways. It actually housed the light keepers family. The tour shows you how they live with the different rooms set up as they would have been back then. It was used until the 1960's when a new ugly steel structure was but to replace it. One of the interesting aspects is how... More

Went to the lighthouse as recommended by Keith and Maureen at Puffins Landind B&B who told us the whales were close by. We were not disappointed! Chatted with a few locals who were very friendly and willing to share information/history about the area and one of them was the Mayor of Bonavista. Newfoundlanders are so friendly!
