Boavista Lighthouse is interesting in a number of ways. It actually housed the light keepers family. The tour shows you how they live with the different rooms set up as they would have been back then. It was used until the 1960's when a new ugly steel structure was but to replace it. One of the interesting aspects is how... More

Went to the lighthouse as recommended by Keith and Maureen at Puffins Landind B&B who told us the whales were close by. We were not disappointed! Chatted with a few locals who were very friendly and willing to share information/history about the area and one of them was the Mayor of Bonavista. Newfoundlanders are so friendly!

Having been to the end of the world in Portugal I had to come here. The lighthouse is nicely looked after as befitting it's status. There are shoreline trails around the Cape itself where icebergs and whales can be spotted in season. I liked the small park nearby that has a statue of John Cabot. I left thinking there could... there is a very nice shop right beside the lighthouse where we bought a large number of gifts - for us and our family. Not cheap, but quality. Also great views and lots of space to walk and see other intersting sites such as statue of John Cabot.

Very informative tour of the light house and interesting to hear how the families lived there. Originally it was cut off from the village until a small bridge was built. Good views of the cliffs.

Worth a climb as the staff will tell you all about the history and show you the view over the sea. Reasonably priced and favourite location for Puffins

The tour of the lighthouse is very interesting. There is a guide on each floor to explain what is was like for the lighthouse keeper and his family. Very educational. It has been restored with great care. A must not miss if in the area.

Very nice setting for this well maintained and colorful lighthouse. You can also walk around the rocky land and overlooks for some nice photos of the coastline. My wife and I took one path and sat on a bench and had our lunch on a nice sunny day. Highly recommend a visit.
