$124 day pass...what a joke. Definitely not a locals rate!! They must not be struggling financially cause that's a great way to keep people from coming!

Everything felt "just right"
Feb 2021
First visit to Sun Peaks, and I wasn't disappointed. I've skied around the world, and I thought Sun Peaks was equal to anywhere I've skied. I felt Sun Peaks is a "goldilocks" resort - everything felt just right.

There are ski hills with greater volumes of challenging terrain, but there's no shortage of challenging terrain at Sun Peaks if that's what you're looking for. I thought Sun Peaks is an ideal to bring a family or group of friends of mixed ability skiers - the beginners or timid will be equally at home as the experts. I saw lots of kids (and grown ups!) having fun on the well-maintained terrain parks.

As it was our first visit, we spent our first day skiing with the excellent and complimentary mountain hosts, who take guests on half day mountain tours every day starting at 9.15am. Our hosts were great - very knowledgeable about the resort and got us well-oriented.

We thought that the lifts and grooming were all of a high standard. There are some slower lifts (the Burfield Chair, which is looong (and our hosts showed us how to avoid!), and the Orient Chair (but that's really just a connector/convenience chair so easy to put up with because the alternative of schlepping long distances on foot isn't that palatable)

We enjoyed the restaurants in the Village at which we ate, in particular the Japanese restaurant, Oya. Excellent coffee at the Vertical Cafe, and good pizza at Mountain High. We also went to Voyageur, which is billed as one of the higher end restaurants, although we thought that the difficult Covid times might be affecting it, as the menu was more limited than we were expecting, and they were out of a couple of things on that more limited menu.

We stayed at a very well-appointed apartment in the Stone's Throw complex near the Orient chair. This was ski-in/ski-out, so very convenient for skiing, but a bit of a walk to the Village (if that matters to you; it doesn't to us).

Beautiful and vibrant

Sun Peaks has so much to offer. a year round playground. The snowshoe trails are well marked and easy to follow. Long treks, short ambles daylight or night time views. A must do if your interested in snowshoeing

Loved our visit - lots to do
Dec 2020 • Family
We had such a great day on the slopes.
Everyone was friendly and helpful from buying our lift tickets, to rental set up, to lessons and lifties.
We had new skiers and the private and group lessons were exceptional.
Everyone had fun and the newest skier is now hooked thanks to her great instructors Ron and Olivia.
So many runs and chairs we never waited more than 10 minutes if at all. Most times we skied right up to the lift.
I was just so impressed with the high level of friendly service from all the employees. Good food too!

RV site on parking lot

We stayed in the campsite, parking lot in sun peaks. This is a first come campground, only 15 available. There are no hookups, but do have a sani dump. There are washrooms and showers, to campers. We were close to the lifts and restaurants.

First time at Sun Peaks
Sep 2020
Enjoyed overall ambience of the village, went during covid restrictions so maybe didn't get full experience. Summer visit. Hiking was good, tons of options for hikes, ski lift was expensive vs. other alternatives for hiking at least. Looks like a great time for mountain bikers! Great getaway for those that don't want to drive 4+ hours to Whistler. Food could use an upgrade or at least more variety, most geared to pub food. Several restaurants not open (not sure if because of summer or covid). Depending on what you like could be good for a day visit, night visit or weekend. Great getaway for golfing weekend!

Hiking trails need better signage!
Aug 2020 • Solo
Horrible signage on the hiking trails! Ive done a lot of solo hiking and trail races. I tha kfully have a good sence of direction. At a junction with a road and 4 trails and not one sign?! Spent a lot of time backtracking and going down trails I didnt want to be on to get where I wanted to go. Helped 2 groups get to the trail they were looking for. A lot of signs were knocked down. Finally gave up and left as it was getting late and didnt want to miss the last chair down.

We hiked around the alpine and enjoyed the beauty of the flower covered hills. Covid-19 precautions were in place and we felt comfortable.

Frustrating
Jul 2020 • Family
Sun Peaks runs its resort like it is government owned. It appears to me like they feel no incentive to make money, to run efficiently, to please a customer and to to get repeat business. Today my family of 4 planned to catch the chairlift to go hike in the morning then rent some downhill bikes and ride the downhill trails in the afternoon. I had read the website ahead of time, looked at rental prices for bikes, chairlift prices and changes due to COVID. I purchased the lift tickets online but when we went to get on the lift, the barcodes on my etickets wouldn’t work so I had to go line up inside to get an actual physical ticket. That’s extra contact/handling for COVID and a waste of time for me. Why would Sun Peaks require you to buy your ticket online but then make you come into their office to pick up physical tickets? I asked them that question and they answered that they thought it had something to do with the waiver written on the back of the ticket. Come on, that’s ridiculous!
So later in the afternoon we went over to Elevation to rent downhill bikes. Elevation is the resort owned rental shop. I had looked up on the website that there was a late afternoon rental price if you get your bike after 4:00pm. We went in at 3:30 to inquire about the bikes however the staff was casually uninterested in renting us bikes. They said it was pretty late and the bikes would have to be returned by 5:00 pm and they didn’t really know if there were any lift tickets left for the day since the resort was limiting numbers due to COVID. I told them their website says the rental is available from 4pm until 7:45pm. They said that changed due to COVID. I told them they had plenty of time to update the website since it’s July 20th and COVID has been around since March. I was super annoyed. Here I am on vacation trying to spend $700 for 2 hours of biking and Sun Peaks is not really interested. They are just throwing out excuses everywhere. So I decided to cross the street and rent bikes at McSporties (which is an independent rental shop, not owned by Sun Peaks Resort). They were happy to take $500 off my hands for 1 and a half hour rental. Next I had to once again go online to buy more lift tickets - filling out birthdates, initialling waivers for 4 people, etc. and then back into the ticket office to wait in line while the one person sitting at the desk was chatting with a non paying customer about camping plans. I had to call for help so some staffers who were chatting in the back would come help me since the staffer chatting about camping clearly wasn’t going to help me. And time was of the essence since the chairlift was shutting down in one hour. It’s so frustrating that Sun Peaks runs this resort so badly. I really want to support this resort but they never cease to frustrate me with their second rate operations and services. I could run this place so much better.

Hi Kirsten. We apologize for the frustrations you experienced on your recent trip to Sun Peaks. There are many changes and new procedures in place throughout the resort this summer as we try to keep staff, guests, and our local community safe, while still providing the best service possible. Unfortunately we fell short on this for you on this occasion. Our management team has contacted you directly to address your feedback in more detail.
