About
Our Visitors Center, the "Grain Elevator", located at exit 348 of Interstate 94 has bushels of information, maps, brochures as well as a gift shop. It is open year round so stop in and talk to our Visitor Center Travel Ambassadors. We provide free wifi, popcorn, and coffee for visitors...And the bathrooms are spick-and-span! The Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center is also home to the woodchipper from the movie 'FARGO.' Stop by and have your photo taken with the infamous woodchipper! We provide the (fake) leg and bomber hats to complete the photo op. Be sure to see the Celebrity Walk of Fame outside our visitors center with star signatures and hand & foot prints in cement.

Being English it was great to hear the North Dakota accent we heard in the Fargo film and tv series. The original woodchipper is inside the building and the stunt double is outside. Fargo is a very friendly town, especially I imagine as we’re British and we were a novelty. Locals couldn’t believe we were in town and everyone was so welcoming, kind and helpful. A very pretty Main Street. We enjoyed our visit.

Inside of the Visitors Center the people are friendly and accommodating. They provided me with a lot of information for the group that we would be bringing through later in the year. You can view the original wood chipper prop used in the movie Fargo and check out their gift shop and other displays. (First visit in March)
Outside of the visitors center you can view the Celebrity Walk of Fame. This features the hand prints of all kinds of famous people, including Bert and Ernie, who have visited Fargo. There is also a replica of the original wood chipper used in the Fargo movie.

Although the Visitor's Center itself was closed I was able to ooh and aah over the Stunt Double of the Famed Fargo Wood chipper to my heart's content. And take lots of photos! And buy souvenirs at the truck stop across the street. I love Fargo!

Average trip. We arrived at approximately 9:30 am and made our way around the building. There were several things one could see outside, including a puzzle painted Buffalo, the Fargo walk of fame, and the wood chipper replica. Inside, the visitor center was very tiny and consisted of the actual wood chipper, some artifacts from the movie, as well as some brochure’s and maps of the surrounding area. There was also a restroom inside.
Tip: I recommend spending 15 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

We had our 11 year old son’s birthday party there and the kids had a blast. They dedicated two workers to be with our group, show them how to throw and made sure they were safe. I HIGHLY recommend this place for any type of event or just a place to go with friends or family!

The Fargo Moorhead Visitors center is great place to visit. They are knowledgeable about everything from hotels, restaurants, events happening, and where everything is in the area. Helpful and friendly. I was able to get lanyards for free for our class reunion. Nice unique building styled like a grain elevator.

This is a great location for a picnic. They have many different places to chose to eat. Then head inside to get your picture with the wood chipper, get maps, information, water and restrooms. They have lots of cool photos and items from the movie Fargo to look at. Definitely worth a stop.

We were on a multi-city trip and Fargo was our hotel spot for the night. We checked into our hotel and were eager to see The "walk of fame" was fun. They had some fun 90s handprints. We went around 7pm (and during the pandemic) so we did not get to go inside. But it was a great photo spot. We did a photo with the North Dakota sign, a very colorful bison (or is it a buffalo.. we googled the difference and I can't remember). There is also a nice little pavillion so you could bring your own picnic lunch. Large parking lot.

This was a great experience!! The people inside were very friendly and helpful.
The wood chipper from the movie Fargo was there - which was our reason for stopping. However, there was much more once we arrived. The staff offered help with things to do and see and there are maps, etc.
The gift shop had postcards and they even mailed some for us. It was very clean and nice inside.
Outside is an artistic bison statue and the walk of fame. Lots of famous people have visited Fargo and it was fun to see their hand and boot/ foot prints.
The visitor center is right off the interstate and easy to get to. Don’t go to Fargo without stopping.

We will be travelling by Amtrak. Are the main attractions within easy walking distance or is there public transport system available to the Viking Centre and historic village?

Hello!
The train station is very close (about 5 minute walk) to Broadway, and on Broadway you'll find several little boutique shops and local dining establishments. The iconic Fargo Theatre is also located on Broadway. The Hjemkomst Center would be about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. The LinkFM bus is a great free way to get around the downtown area, and it does stop at the Hjemkomst Center upon request.
Hope this helps!
