to do the tour around south bavarian's lakes was probably my best idea of this summer :-) Walchensee is in my top 5 lakes. Spectacular views, refreshing and amazingly clear water...

Amazing place. Great for a swim and I recommend you take the cable car and then walk to the top for ridiculously good views of both lakes

Lake Walchensee is lesser known than its other lake counterparts (such as Lake Kochel) but the beauty of it is that it is not overcrowded. We headed there on a summer's day afternoon and had plenty of space to ourselves. The waters were clear and the surrounding mountains provided nice shade when the sun came out. There isn't much there to eat but do bring your own food and drinks for a lovely picnic. If you are a fan of aerial views, take the cable car or hike up the Herzogstand mountain for breathtaking views of the surroundings. Only an hour and a half by car from Munich, Lake Walchen is worth the trip!

Approximately an hour train ride from Munich and you are in Kochel. Take the bus leaving from the quaint station in Kochel to the Walchensee cable car stop and take the cable car to the top. A small hike to the top and you have wonderful panorama sights awaiting you. The breathtaking views of the Walchensee lake will really mesmerize you.
I would recommend you to visit the place ideally in summer. You can also continue in the same bus to Garmisch Partenkirchen if you wish to.

It was gorgeous! A mirror-like alpine lake, ice blue, surrounded by mountains, a village with a dear little church on the shore – all charming. There were even people swimming and sunbathing even though it was decidedly cool!! We decided to have lunch at one of the lakeside restaurants where a traditional brass band was playing, followed by a lovely walk.
A delightful way to spend the day.

This is a beautiful place to spend some time, either a day trip or longer. We camped at Camping Walchensee and managed to pitch our tents literally on the bank of the lake, with a view looking out across the lake and mountains... was surreal and idyllic! You can go swimming in the lake in the warmer months and a variety of other water sports are also available, mainly windsurfing and kitesurfing, although pedalo boats and paddleboarding is also possible. We alsl caught the cable car up the side of the mountain - this was great as there is a lovely beer garden at the top as well as numerous hiking routes, ranging from easy and short to longer and steeper and they were all very well marked and maintained. All in all, I would highly recommend!

One of the best lakes we've been to in the area, definitely worth a visit. Stunning location and plenty of places to eat and drink.

We had the pleasure of staying in an apartment on the lake. We had beautiful views of the lake and in the evening got to watch the sun go behind the mountains. We were even able to pick out Zugspitze on the horizon. At night there was no shortage of stars. We took a day out of our trip to relax and walk around the lake. There were lots of people out on the lake and it was fun watching the wind surfers. There are lots of mountain trails nearby. Definitely worth a visit if you are into hiking or water sports or just want a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the nature!

Its amising place with mountins and lake. A little city or maybe its village where is around nature. Walchensee stay about 200 km from Muhchen. I and my friend stayed in a Hotel near the Lake. And from our windows was view on a lake and mountains. I recommended to you by the ticket to the Herzogstandbahn. It’s not expensive
, about 7Euro. And you will raise to the 1700 m Alps in height. And one more place for your rest. Its Kristall Trimini Kochel am See. This is open-air swimming pool with a view of the mountains.
So enjoy ))))

We did the cable car up Mt Hetzogstand which is at 1731 metre outlooking Lake Walchensee at the south. The ride up/down is every 15 minutes and is truly impressive on the way up as the view begins to expand with height and gets more spectacular and beautiful. At the top there is a small hut to rest and admire the vast beautiful mountains and lake views or have a picnic. A ten minutes walk will take you to the restaurant and be sure to do that as you will get to see the view around the other side of Mt Hetzogstand which is equally spectacular. Lake Walchensee from up here is deep cobalt blue with some light tinge at the shallower part and is so beautiful. It’s a perfect place to have a picnic lunch and soak in the great view and mountain air. If you choose to walk down it takes about 2.5 hours for a tough 5.5 km on certain steep terrain but for the young it’s a thrill.

Hallo!

Hi,
My boyfriend and I are travelling around Europe for a month in summer and were hoping to make this campsite one of our stops. The only problem is that we wouldn't want to be carrying a tent about with us for weeks... is there anywhere nearby we could get a cheap tent to stay in and then just leave it behind when we carry on from there?
