About
Damajagua Waterfalls is made up of 27 "waterfalls"—there are in fact only around 12 waterfalls with the rest being pools—and offer a great day of adventure just outside of Puerto Plata. You'll start your journey on a challenging jungle hike, before getting to the first waterfall. Once there, you can take on 18-foot jumps, zip down natural slides, go canyoneering, and swim through caves.
Visiting with a guide and wearing a life vest and helmet is mandatory. You can book a tour from Puerto Plata, which typically includes equipment, lunch and transport. You can visit all 27 waterfalls, though most travelers go for guided tours which only cover the 12. – Tripadvisor

- AudGreenPembroke Pines, Florida166 contributionsA Must DoWhat an incredible experience. This Celebrity Cruises excursion in Puerto Plata , DR, was definitely worth our time and money. The experience of jumping off a waterfall and into a cool crisp pool of fresh water was wonderful. During this adventure you will hike up to waterfall areas using both flattened hard ground pathways and small step stairways. It is not difficult but you will need some stamina for small segments. After about 45 minutes, starting and stopping, you will arrive at the jump areas. The guides help to ensure you are in the correct position and tat you know how to approach and then jump properly off the cliff. And then, you are off. In some areas you will jump and in others you will slide. There are also ladders to climb down if you do not want to do either. You can choose each time. You will stay with the group even if you choose to climb down. There are parts of this experience that are not perfect. The very large tour group sizes makes for long waits at each segment of the hike and also at the line to jump. The guides do not actually provide any information about the park or the falls as you are guided along, so it is not very engaging. But, as an experience, it is one to take advantage of. Some tips: You will need CLOSED TOED water shoes. If you can bring your own, try for some that have a bit of a cushioned sole to help with the walk. Also, they recommend you leave ALL belongings behind in the lockers. The impact when you jump is rough. However, I now wish I had brought my phone in its waterproof case. You can wear it around your neck and hold on tight as you jump in so that you can take your own pictures. A member of our group did have her phone. They will take pictures along the whole tour and then sell the thumbdrive of the entire group at the end. If you do not want to carry the phone with you, try to arrange with other members of the group to purchase and then share the pics. I also recommend plugging your nose when you are jumping in. It is a rough landing.Visited July 2022Written August 8, 2022
- judith wAsheville, North Carolina163 contributionsSlide down a waterfallWhat a great hiking experience. We hiked for approximately an hour then we reached some areas where they had waterfalls and you swam in caverns and slid down the waterfalls. This was an excursion provided by the cruise line and it was truly amazing said it was strenuous and I was a little leery but it really wasn’t strenuous it was great I would recommend this for any thrill seeking adventureVisited February 2020Traveled with friendsWritten March 6, 2020
- Cassondra C1 contributionWaterfalls & More! From the personalized pickup “literally just me and my husband” on a small bus Jesus gave us an education about Dominican culture, some Spanish lessons that we need to really work on, gracias professor, cold waters, mamajauna drink ;-) a must try, Cuba libre drinks and so much more! We joined up with a larger group at the falls and had about a 20 minute hike in the jungle to the waterfalls. It is hot and muggy and does take some effort so make sure you are able to hike and climb uneven surfaces. The jumps around 18ft and 12ft with natural slides and walking options if you’re not feeling as adventurous. They provide helmets and life jackets. Be prepared with cash to tip these amazing locals who work hard to give you an amazing experience. We booked thru Marysol Tours, you have to walk a bit to get to your guide with sign. You end up walking thru 2 gates and then turn left and walk a ways to guides with signs. They are not inside cruise port area. I would do this a million times over because of our great tour guide Jesus and paparazzi photographer Ricci ❤️Visited August 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten August 14, 2022
- HungryJenBFrisco, Texas14 contributionsZip line & Waterfalls!!We came to Puerta Plata as a port on our cruise. We booked a zip line & waterfall combo excursion through Iguana Mama Tours, & it was absolutely great! Carlos (from Iguana Mama) was a delightful guide on our bus ride. Angel (also from Iguana Mama) was our guide for the zip lines & falls, & he was fantastic! ChiChi was our additional guide once we got to Damajagua, and he was so much fun - he made leaf crowns for our 2 teenage girls & even threw rocks at mango trees to get us some delicious fresh mangos to eat as we hiked! The zip lines we super fun & the views were beautiful! Jumping & sliding down the waterfalls was absolutely amazing! Our teenagers said it was their favorite excursion ever!Visited July 2021Traveled with familyWritten July 29, 2021
- SunpeerMedina, New York18 contributionsBeautiful - Take the Jump! This is an amazing excursion!! Read the reviews and do your homework to be prepared. I booked thru Vacations To Go - Puerto Plata Adventures. We started as a group of four at the NCL dock with guide and driver in a very nice mini van. When we got to the site we joined others to form a larger group less than 20. Our guide stayed close with us. The life jackets were clean and in very good shape. I was given a helmet which was swapped immediately with one for better fit. Listen to the guides and follow their instructions … they know the drill and are friendly, informative and caring. Be sure you have a good water shoe that can take the over the road hike. It’s a well worn path, but you are traversing rocks, mud and roots not the beach or your backyard pool. I’m 73 and the 40 plus minutes of up hills and down hills took effort. I paid 40 bucks for photographs and it was the best… Pedro was like having a personal coach.. lighthearted, encouraging and getting pics of the moment. I grew up around lakes, rivers and waterfalls so this took me back to my childhood. The jumps are cautious but not dangerous. Totally FUN. The water is cool but not freezing and is clean. Not clear but defiantly not muddy, kinda grey-blue green. The guides gave a helping hand when needed at every turn. When you get home you can Google Earth Damajagua Falls and say “I Jumped!!!”Visited February 2023Written February 19, 2023

What we liked: The waterfalls themselves were good fun, the tour guides were safety conscious and fun people. The ride is fairly short, and the area seems safe. The actual walking part was not difficult (mid forties in our group, a couple of health issues, but in reasonable shape). What we did not like: our experience was apparently atypical, according to other tour goers and the cruise guest service, so consider that. First, they did not gather the group at the time the tickets showed. We discovered that the reason for this was that there were not enough people signed up for our package (zip line + waterfall). We were given the option to consolidate to the waterfall-only tour and be refunded the difference, and so left later than we had booked. We got to the top of the hike and quickly bumped against other tours lined up in front of us. It nearly tripled the estimated hike time. They gave no explanation as to why, but seemed confused as to why themselves. Later they told us that it wasn’t normal (as anyone would). That wasn’t so irritating except we hear and later see people from our cruise zip lining! They zipline right in front of our already backed up group and get front of line privilege, further delaying our fun. We got back to the embarkation area with about 1 hour to spare before need to queue up for security to get back on the boat. It was infuriating that the delays essentially meant that we stood in line all day and that was the entirety of our Dominican Republic experience. Recommendations: they have lockers and water shoes for rent ($8 each as of April 2023). The ground is a bit rough, so if you bring your own water shoes make sure they have treads. They provided us with 2 free bottles of water each before heading up, and bins are placed along the way to dispose of them. If I did it again I would have brought a light snack, hiking shoes, and a dry bag to put my hiking shoes in when swapping to water shoes. Actually, if I did it again I would get a taxi to the area and just walk it myself without all the guides. The set price on taxis that was advertised would make the round trip cheaper than the tour price and I could have simply walked past the tour groups that could only go as fast as the fattest tourist. There is a bunch of souvenir shops at the base of the hike area if that sort of thing interests you. All in all, it was a good trip, it just wasn’t quite worth the wait for us, though. Better luck to you.Visited April 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 4, 2023

We did the 12 jumps NOT the 27 as you have to climb the mountain to start the descend. The climb for the 12 jumps is approx 45mins. As soon as we finished there was a great meal waiting for us. They pick you up in an air conditioned bus and you travel about 20 minutes to get to the park. The hike is intense, but the guide stops often for breaks. The scenery is beautiful and the water falls are amazing. You have the option to leap into 2 of the water falls or you can slide down or walk down. We had a blast. The guides and the "paparazzi" are great! Very funny & friendly. Would definitely do again!Visited January 2020Written February 4, 2020

Every one of us found the excursion to be exhilarating and exciting! We were on a Carnival cruise excursion and did the zip and dip option. We hiked for about 45 mins up a trail and completed 5 zip lines, 2 suspension bridges and the falls slides. The hike is a little strenuous and I would not recommend for anyone with younger children, older adults, or anyone with a health condition. The guides, Chocolate and Berney were phenomenal.Visited July 2022Traveled with familyWritten July 17, 2022

They made sure our group was together and supervised the slides and jumps to makes sure everyone was safe and having a good time. The staff providing vests, helmets and water shoes were very helpful. We booked this excursion through our NCL cruise. It warned that it was for people whom were in shape. Please adhere to what they tell you to do…water shoes, cash for locker, bring dry footwear for post event. The hike wasn’t difficult for us, but many should not have been on this excursion! Had to stop many times to wait for them! Also bring water, they only give you one bottle! If you want the pictures they take, bring cash or have a credit card. The jumps are high, the fall shoots were fun but felt a bit risky. Guides were safe and sound. Listen to all that they advise! You must be able to swim too. Overall great if you are physically up to the task. Otherwise go do something else.

This was SUCH a good time and exactly as expected. Everything that you see here is the experience that you will receive. We started in a big crowd which took a while to get through and organized and because of this, ended up finally leaving the port 30-40 minutes late (reason for 4 stars vs 5) but everything from here was smooth sailing. They make sure you have all the info you need, lockers, proper safety equipment, etc. The hike (because so much of it is uphill and up stairs) was a bit strenuous but doable. We did stop several times and the folks in the group struggling got lots of one-on-one help from the tour guides. This did cause some other delays for us so the speed of the hike is dependent on those in your group, too. Once at the top, they stop and allow you to finish water, put on the helmets and life jackets and then you start heading down a bit to get to your first spot. We were able to jump or take a ladder down to get into the water and pretty much remained in and out of it until the end. I believe there were 7 jumps/slides that we went down. It was soooo refreshing, fun, and well worth the hike and money!! The company that runs the whole tour was SUPER helpful for me in particular, I had left something behind in the bathroom at the waterfalls and they located it and made sure it got back to the ship for me while I was in another part of the excursion I was on with a cruise. I'd 10000% recommend this for anyone. My only reason(s) for not giving this 5 stars are the delays causing us not to have much time to walk around port and it was long day without food. If the delays hadn't happened, I think we would have more time to buy and enjoy a snack though.

My wife and I did this excursion on a cruise we took. This was an awful experience. Let me start by saying we are both very fit, and active people. The tour was WAY overbooked. After we finished the hike to the "waterfalls" we had to stand in line for over 1.5 hours just to get to the first jump. Once we finally got through the first jump we had to sit in freezing cold water and wait for everyone ahead of us to get out of the pool, which was an insane amount of people. My wife was shaking from being so cold. Second off, you don't even see a real waterfall! Its basically just water pools that you jump into. We were so excited for this excursion, and had the proper amount of people been booked it may have been a more enjoyable experience. They allowed way too many people to go on the trip which ruined our experience. It was also supposed to be in total a 3 hour excursion, and we were gone well over 4 hours. The scenery and water pools are beautiful, but in my opinion not even close to worth it given what we had to deal with. Save your time and money, go to the beach.

Is there an email to ask you all questions? I have a group of 7 and one of them is 5. Can everyone still come but wait nearby for us while being supervised by an adult (my wife)? I can take turns watching her. Like is there a swallow body of water near by to play and wait for others guests to accomplish the excursion?

No, unfortunately there isn't a "waiting area" along the route. Each fall has to be passed. Some are tamer than others but there's no way around them.

We didn’t find them slippery but definitely wear water shoes! I would recommend a sneaker type water shoe but if you have the less expensive ones get shoe inserts and put in as extra cushioning.

Do you have to jump of every waterfall or is there a way around all of them. I'm want to go with my family, however, I will not jump of any waterfalls and don't want to be forced to do so.

We are thinking about doing this adventure during our upcoming vacation to Puerto Plata this December. Our son is 41/2 years old. Will it be ok to take him in this adventure? We have been wanting to do this waterfall adventure for a long time.

Hey June, I think that this attraction would be suiting for a 4 1/2 year old, especially if they will be older than 5 when you get there. It also depends on the child's swimming abilities. All participants are required to wear a life jacket and helmet and water shoes, so it is pretty safe.
