We had a lovely tour guide and learned a lot about ND and the Capitol Building. the tour was free, a good length (about 45 minutes) and appropriately paced. The building has lots of beautiful arts and crafts features. Our favorite stop was the "monkey room" - you'll have to take the tour to find out more.

If you happen to be in Bismarck stop by the capitol building for an interesting free tour, and see the surprisingly large and modern (and also free) state museum next door. The Capitol Building isn't the prettiest or most impressive state house from outside, but the inside features some very cool Art Deco architecture that will surprise you. Our tour... More

A fun stop in Bismarck! The building is a great example of 1930's architecture. The observation deck offers stunning views of the city as well as interesting historical photos, The main floor portrait gallery of notable North Dakotans makes for a fun stroll through history. Volunteers and staff are both friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and feature a... More

Free tours offered at the top of hour every hour except noon. Tour guide was fun and very knowledgeable. Cafeteria offers an impressive and reasonably priced yummy lunch.

We had read about this very different state capitol - an 18 story "office building" instead of a domed capitol. We arrived around noon, got a bite to eat in the building cafeteria - lots of options, very reasonable prices and great selection (much of the food service closes at 1:30) - then caught the 1:00 tour. We really recommend... More

The severe straight line tower may not attract like more classically-styled state capitols, but the magnificent art deco interior is completely worth an hour's self-guided tour. The main hallway is unbelievably majestic. Take time to visit the superb legislative chambers. The first elevator on the right takes you quickly to the 18th floor observatory. This is a must-see when passing... More

Our group was made of approximately 30 people from all over the United States. For most of them it was their first time to North Dakota. They were very impressed with the Capitol Building and its history. The tour guide was excellent and one could tell she really enjoyed her job. One constructive thing, the last tour is at 11:00... As the tallest building in ND, and part of our history, it's a great place to visit. The highlight for my smaller kids was going to the observation deck on the 18th floor. Very cool pictures to look at up there too.

Took a tour with two others on a Sunday. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, but the tour itself was no more than 20 minutes. I'm not sure it's worth stopping really.
