A quiet stroll thru a historic cemetery. I have attended several services here and enjoy the horns of the Moravian bands that play as part of the ceremony. It was a lovely experience. God's Acre is worth a stroll as you walk into the past...More

I went there with some relatives who were in fro out of town. Wow. It's stunning and very interesting on the way the Moravian's bury the dead. Definitely a must see when you visit! Make sure to stop by the church as well. It's beautiful!

A visit to God's Acre is a nice walk through a peaceful old (1700's) cemetery in Old Salem. Spring is especially beautiful here.

The Moravian section of the cemetery is quite interesting with rows an rows of identical style tomb stones. There is another (non- Moravian) part as well which I'll have to explore next time.

You would think this would be boring and morbid but the headstones have unique quotes and versed on them that are quite interesting.

God's Acre is part of Old Salem and is the cemetery for the 13 churches of the Salem Congregation of the Moravian Church. God's Acre continues one of the oldest and disappearing traditions of the Moravian Church, e.g., burial of people by choirs: single brothers,...More
