Airlie Gardens is a great day trip and admission is very reasonable. You can see the 400 year old Airlie Oak tree dripping with Spanish Moss encircled by beds of tulips in full bloom! The Camilias are bursting and the Azaleas are just beginning their show. Lady Banks roses paint borders along many paths. Walkways meander through the gardens leading to many points of interest such as the colorful Bottle Chapel, the Butterfly House and Tranquility Garden. If you get tired, the tram is always close by. Bring a camera and binoculars. You might see the Ospreys nesting near the Pergola Garden, or catch a glimpse of this female Anhinga we caught on camera sunning on an oak limb.Be sure to check out the art room and gift shop, plus there are scheduled events throughout the year.

We went early in the morning and there was a cool breeze on a hot day. The gardens are amazing, lush and some are hidden. The glass house seemed to be hidden but we finally found it. The shapes, colors and sizes of the glass to build the house was very interesting. The sun flowers were the best I have ever seen and they were huge. The gardens are well kept. We had a small lunch at the gazebo and were visited by several turtles and a flock of geese. Part of the gardens borders the creek and several ponds meander through. The butterfly house was filled with butterflies. This is an wonderful relaxing tour with treasures around every corner. Lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes. The pathways are easy to travel on.
They have a tram that starts in June. A majestic garden in the middle of the city.

Disappointed in this space on a Sat afternoon.Late Oct is not a blooming season however the space was not at all utilized well to justify admission. We did enjoy a peaceful walk on a beautiful day. Rarely do I leave a negative review, however people on a budget should know this is not worth spending $ especially if u are in a large group. Plenty of other free outdoor spaces.

Although we missed the peak spring bloom, the garden was none the less impressive! We wandered along the path, and back tracked some for close to 2 hours on a near perfect April morning. It was easy to find us first time visitors to Wilmington. In addition, parking was just as easy and the welcome by the cashier could not have been warmer and more friendly.

Each section of the gardens has something unique and it starts as soon as you leave the garden services center. Sculpture both traditional and whimsical is found throughout, as well as benches to sit and just admire the area. Among other items, we find ourselves still telling others about the Airlie Oak, a majestic live oak over 400 years old and one of the largest of its kind in NC! A photo doesn’t do it justice, but when we show it to family and friends, they can’t help but “WOW!”

The Bottle Chapel is also unforgettable, as is the story behind it of how that artist brought work on paper of another artist into 3 dimensions. In walking around it trying to absorb some of the many details, took longer than we imagined.

What a gem Airlie Gardens is for visitors, but also for locals who can enjoy it’s many facets as it changes year round.

I'm a bird watcher. At home I participate in something called Feeder Watch each winter. So this place was for me. I was able to photograph several species I had not seen before.

The gardens are large and most of the trails are paved. For our visit, they also were decorated for their Christmas night-time light shows, but tickets - at least for the weekend we were there - were all sold out.

As a military retiree me it cost only $5.00 each for not only me, but also my wife. Regular adult admission is $10.00.

The only restrooms are at the gift shop/cashier, so beware if you intend to be there for several hours. They are clean.

We visited Arlie Gardens on a Sunday afternoon and it was a great day. The gardens were clean and beautiful. The walk around the grounds was well kept and fun to see all the different plants as well as sculptures!

We enjoyed a nice early November walk through the gardens. Since so little was in bloom, we focused on the abundance of Live Oaks and the landscaping around the lake. Luckily, the weather was unseasonably sunny and warm.

This is one of my favorite activities in Wilmington. It's such a gorgeous park with wildlife, trees, and flowers from the area as well as some cool art pieces. Not as excited for kids, but really pretty and relaxing space.

These are pretty gardens on the water with lots of bird wildlife around the perimeter of the gardens. Smaller garden than other gardens, but still well kept and had a variety of trees, flowers and history to see. Allow about 2.5 hours and you can see everything and not feel rushed. Glad we went.
