Aquatic Safaris operates two USCG certified custom dive boats, a 30' and a 48'. Our boats run daily dive charters to wrecks and ledges off Wrightsville Beach. Things that might help you have a more successful experience than I had: 1. VERY, VERY carefully check your confirmation email. If you don't get an email, your dive isn't booked, despite what staff tell you. They won't hold dives for you. Once they send the email, any errors are your problem regardless of who made them. If booking for a party, and you didn't schedule the dive, make sure the person who gets the confirmation email checks it carefully - only one person in a party gets the email. If you cancel a dive, again, check that cancellation email. If you didn't get it, they didn't really cancel your dive and will charge you. 2. Beware of staff error. This past summer while trying to book a dive, I was lied to repeatedly by staff and not told information I should have been told. Staff will not call you back. They will not pass on messages to the owners. When one staffer booked my sons for the wrong dive, a dive they weren't certified to take, he tried to convince them to go anyway, to cover for his mistake. He put their lives in danger to cover for his error. 3. TOO busy. The owners, according to their own staff, are too busy to take your phone calls or return messages. I tried reaching them by phone multiple times. When advised to use the contact form on their website, they did not respond to that as well (yes, I checked my spam mail too, no answer). I was finally able to get them to respond to my concerns by sending a letter. Try that. 4. Beware of the late cancellation! If they have to cancel your trip last minute due to weather, be advised you will get an EMAIL - at 5:15 AM while you are driving on the freeway from Raleigh or wherever you are coming from. So if you don't regularly check your email at 5AM, make sure you do on the day you're scheduled for a dive. They are not set up to send a text message to everyone, and even if they were, I wouldn't trust the staff to collect the information needed. They won't call. So rather than show up for a dive after driving 2 1/2 or more hours and then be disappointed, but sure to check your email regularly all morning long. 5. Staff won't tell you, but you can get on waiting lists for dives. There are regular cancellations, so it's likely you can get on a dive if you sign up on enough waiting lists. Just make sure you are on the list for the dive you want. Check that confirmation email. And if you cancel a dive or ask to be off a waiting list, double check that cancellation email!!! Errors are your problem, not theirs.

I booked our four check-out dives for Wilmington. Then after the booking, they changed two of the dives to Raleigh. I wasn't planning on going to Raleigh and this messed up my other plans, but ok. Then Hurricane Sandy came thru the Carolina's and I was told all the dives would now be in Raleigh, if they even had them. I decided to cancel for both weather reasons (scuba is dangerous in inclement weather) and the venue change. But because it was within a week or the reservation, they only would refund me half the money. I was actually ok with that provided the dives actually went thru. However I was informed that EVEN IF THEY DECIDED TO CANCEL the dives, that I would not get the remainder of the refund due to the fact that I backed out first. I won't be going here for any future dives. That is a ridiculous policy.

The booking process was quick and easy. Once at the Marina, the Captain and Dive Staff were very helpful. It was definitely less than ideal weather wise. Rained the whole time, very rough seas, but the crew pushed through and made the most of it. Dove on the Hyde wreck and saw many sharks, a barracuda and a stingray. I will certainly go again when I'm in the area.

I am a dark water diver here in the Carolinas and normally use a shop near my house in North Myrtle Beach but I was in Wilmington today and stopped by Aquatics Safari to get a Scuba pro Yoke to DIN conversion piece. First off the piece is 46.00 at Leisure Pro and they wanted 76.00 bucks plus tax for it. I haggled and got it for 64.00 and they would change it out for free. THIS IS WHERE THE DANGEROUS THING HAPPENED..The tech was a young guy and he was handiling my new Scubapro MK17 EVO A700 regulator very careless. He so called installed the DIN part on my regulator. I asked about the 2 washers left over in the pack and he said he didnt know.....I had red flags all thru the experience..... BTW I stood there and watched him because the guy had no experience in converting the regulators. He said he practiced on one of theirs before I arrived.(I called them about the piece before I drove there). He said its done ....... I SAID LETS TEST IT! It leaked as soon as he cut the air on. I said those washers must have mattered. At that point I called my guy at my local dive store and asked him if he could do the conversion for me. I drove 70 miles to him and this what I found out. Guy almost ruined the valve by the way he installed it and tighted it....Second my dive guy told me it would have worked back loose over time... If it had not leaked on the test and I had used it I might have been killed!!! MORAL of this story is you better know and trust the person who is servicing your gear!!

Dove with AS a few years ago and hands down 5 stars. Circled back to Wilmington recently and was not as impressed, really hoping they just had an off day. My first issue was our DM. Was on an advanced charter to about 35 miles off shore, with a lot of regulars on board. Wish there was a little more guidance as to how they want gear stored and boat procedures for those of us that don’t frequently dive with AS, as all boats are just a little different. Also was not a fan that as soon as the ride started the DM disappeared to the fly bridge for most of the ride, wish he was a little more personable, and available to customers if we needed. Next, near the end of our dives (which were great), the crew started talking about how the site the other boat went to only had 5 feet of vis. I was scheduled to go to said site the next day with AS and wasn’t a fan of how they were still going to run and charge for a site that that they now knew would be less than ideal. Fortunately another person wanted to dive said site, and took my spot. I should also add that this was my second time scheduling dives with them this summer. The first time back in July or August I called them before leaving my house (4 hours away) the day before the dive to be sure it was still running. Was told weather looked great, about 20 minutes before I got to my hotel they called to cancel due to weather. I’ll return for sure, but just wasn’t as impressed this time. Just my observations, current PADI Pro with approximately 2500 dives.
