I am a native of N.C. and had never been to the Historic District. It is very busy with lots of renovations going on. It has some lovely old churches. It appears they are attempting to mimic historic Charleston and/or Savannah which is a good thing, just not there yet. I do hope that happens in the not so far off future. It was very crowded,
lots of shops to explore. Beware of high priced parking though, $25 hr., and attempt to find street parking.

I loved this area and did spend quite a few hours walking around discovering beautiful buildings in tree lined roads. Each house was different but blended beautifully with the next. The architecture was lovely, the gardens different and the mature trees complimented my walks. I loved the way signs marked the age and information about the buildings. I met people walking their dogs and people sitting in their gardens enjoying the lovely weather. I am not into exercise but I walked many miles in this lovely place.

An amazing amount of original historic material remaining. Lovely spring time landscaping. The streets that are still brick or pavers are safer as locals don’t speed so much. Other streets are like the Charlotte Speedway even early on a Saturday morning of a chilly day.

Bordering the river, the historic district of Wilmington is sprinkled with buildings from hundreds of years ago, all protected by the Historical Society. Churches abound in this city; one as magnificent as the other. Nice little downtown area with restaurants, bars, and music venues.

This is a great area to explore on foot. Second Street is probably my favorite as there is quite a bit of traffic on 3rd and also on Front Street. You can spend an hour or two here just admiring the beautiful old homes. This area has the highest elevation in the Wilmington area, about 35 feet above sea level. I walked around it a few times by myself and also with my wife and it is very enjoyable.

First off we loved that this tour saves horses from the processors. Second we loved that the tours aren’t on a set schedule. The horses tell them when they are ready and relaxed so they aren’t being forced to anything. Overall, this tour was a quick 30 minute high level history lesson on Wilmington. We enjoyed it as there were a few historical houses tours we wanted to do so it gave us a good lay of the land and helped us determine which one we wanted to do. I would recommend to get your bearings for downtown plus a history lesson in the side. Cash only. Try to bring exact change.

We live local and continue to marvel at the beautiful houses in the Historic District. As it often happens, we take the area for granted, and should probably do a walking tour instead of the drive-by.

I've been told that Wilmington was one of few cities that didn't burn during the Civil War, and it shows. The homes are beautiful and the owners do a great job of keeping them up. The area has been gentrifying for several years and will continue to do so as Wilmington becomes more popular as a place to live, work, and retire.

To be fair, a few blocks away from the Historic District that has not been renovated has some sketchy neighborhoods, so just beware.

Dirty, construction everywhere. Riverwalk was nasty, questionable people, beggers. Shops dark and uninviting. Didn't feel safe walking around in broad daylight. Marketing group for the city is streching reality to say the least. Don't waste your time!!!

We walked and also took a carriage tour of the town. You can't go wrong either way. The historic district is lovely and worth a stroll. I enjoyed going via carriage and getting some information on some of the homes. Most of this district is very well maintained and the people are friendly.
