Just east of downtown this district is comprised of historic homes (lovingly decorated) plus some churches and a syanagogue. Lots of history on plaques located on each home. People in neighborhood greeted us and were quite friendly. A pleasant walk back in history. We started at 5th and Orange and just wandered on the south side of Market street.

I'm rating it average because Wilmington is HOT and humid during summer. I think the tour is good, the tour guide informative but WTF, why put these poor horses through these paces? It's inhumane. If the humans want to be outside, they have a choice but horses don't want to pull us around - it's 2016, why can we have... More

I absolutely love Wilmington area and Wrightsville beach but I was very upset to see they are using horse drawn trolleys and carriages as a tourist attraction. These are lazy people using animals to make them money. These horses are exhausted and are tied up to a pole while resting. Some rest break being tied up to a pole with... More

The downtown Histerical District (Historic District) is one of the oldest & most famous in the country. Wether you like old historic homes from the 1700's & walking down quiet, shaded brick streets reading the history on the plaques of each house or enjoy walking along the Riverwalk rated in the top 10 in USA Today or you like browsing... We lived in Wilmington over 45 years ago. Back in the day, the downtown neighborhood was on the verge of serious decline. Today the downtown is a charming restored district of Greek Revival homes including a home where Lord Cornwallis stayed during the American Revolution. It gets increasingly charming every year as more and more folks restore their homes according... More

I would mot say that this is a must do. We were not wowed by the driver and his commentary. We were disappointed. Wilmington is gorgeous.

We chose an open air trolley with a tour guide. The guide was very knowledgeable and provided a fun and interesting 45 minute tour. With the heat of August it was an excellent way to see the beautiful Wilmington Historic District without all the walking. The guide pointed out homes, churches, and businesses of varying ages and architectural styles and... More

We were surprised about all the construction around the river walk. We can see the progress from when we were here in October. Some of the stores are empty but the rest of the shops are very quaint and unique. You can take a trolley ride, a boat tour or just walk around.
