We spent the first evening on the River Walk in Wilmington. It is a beautiful walkway on the Cape Fear River. We walked , shopped and took some beautiful pictures. We ate at one of the restaurants on the river front. Then we took an evening cruise on the Cape Fear. It was a great way to spend the evening... More

A variety of tour groups offer trip on the Cape Fear River. Most of the ones you can fins in a simple internet search will provide a nice trip and background information about the waterway and it's history. The companies offer different boat types and different amenities so the pick the one that you think sounds the most interesting.

I took a boat trip on the Cape Fear River, it was a relaxing trip on the way out. The tour was guided and the sites around cape fear were many. It was the best way to see the water and it's surrounding. There was many industries, warehouses, new and old ships lodged in and around the water. It was... More

This is a picturesque river that has many uses -- shipping, pleasure boating, fishing, and supporting the tourist economy of Wilmington. The river itself is picturesque even though the water is brown. The best way to see it, of course, is from a boat. We found Wilmington Water Tours to be a good option. The full moon cruise was excellent,... More

We enjoy strolling along the river. We have watched container ships that travel up and down it. We have taken boat rides on the river, which were quite pleasurable.

Okay, so that was a sort of tongue in cheek title, since comparing rivers isn't like comparing restaurants or hotels. But, seriously, the Cape Fear River from the downtown boardwalk is a lovely river, with pretty views, and is fun and peaceful to travel on by sightseeing boat. The boardwalk is comfortable to walk along, with places to sit and... More

Lots of commercial traffic. Fishing, both pleasure and commercial. Some freighter traffic. Well marked and safe.

Took my wife here for a weekend and enjoyed the local shops, restaurants and a river tour as well as walks on the River Walk. The history was interesting and well restored and recorded. The town has lots of variety and plenty for people of all ages to enjoy.

Our first stop on an drive down east coast of US after flying in from Atlanta. Wilmington has an historic past and river front area. Stayed at Holiday Inn Express just a five minute drive in to Town, ideal clean, friendly, large beds and breakfast all in. Downtown is easy to get around and 2 places to see are The... More

The Cape Fear River is fascinating to watch - ripples and waves constantly travelling along. Sip coffee, have a cocktail or a meal along the river at one of the varied establishments and let the river take your mind on a voyage.
