What a really neat venue. An old, renovated theater, with a connection to the nearby East Carolina University Drama Department, and the subsidized Community Arts Program, it is quite a wonderful experience. We have seen several shows there including song artists, Broadway shows, and local talent. And the price, don't get me started! Ridiculously low.

If you are a visitor to the Washington area, first take time to enjoy the charm of the historic downtown and waterfront. As you walk the main street shops, be sure to stop into the Turnage and see the local artwork. This could range from local watercolorists, oil painters, sculptors, acrylic painters, or local student artwork! Beyond taking in the visual elements of both art work and the architecture of the building, you can see what's on the line up for shows. The AOP (Arts of the Pamlico) has done a terrific job lining up entertainment and cultural events. Bluegrass, jazz, improv, children's theater, and movie nights are just to name a few. Events are posted on their website and priced very fairly. Entering the Turnage gallery is always free!

I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy many visits to Arts of the Pamlico (AoP) and its beautifully restored historic Turnage Theatre. It’s my first local entertainment option! They offer a variety of exceptional live performances including many genres of music, comedy, readings and plays…..and movies too. The Turnage Gallery and the Lane Gift Shop are both visual arts galleries that have a rotating variety of original local and regional arts and crafts on display….and for sale. There’s The Art Cafe' @ the Turnage that offers visitors a comfortable, soothing setting with local art, cafe' tables and chairs, a bar (during events) and a baby grand piano. You should stop by and “take a load off” while shopping in Washington’s beautiful historic waterfront downtown and/or dining at one of the very good local restaurants…..or just while taking a break from a walk on the boardwalk along the beautiful Washington waterfront. The charming downtown area has several locally owned art galleries and antique shops, outstanding ladies’ and men’s boutique clothiers, other interesting shops and an amazing, award winning bakery/soup and sandwich/coffee shop with both inside and outside dining! You won't find a more beautiful and enjoyable location or venue, or a better entertainment value anywhere in eastern NC. Come by boat and dock at the waterfront! It’s just a short walk to dinner and an event at the Turnage Theatre. There is also plenty of parking behind the Theatre. WOW, what a great day or evening out! Y’all should give it a try and you’ll be back to make it your first local entertainment option too!

Always satisfied with the quality of entertainment, whether a live band, a play, or a comedian. The Turnage is a beautifully restored historic theater that is becoming a hub of entertainment and community gathering place in beautiful and quaint downtown Washington. Well worth a visit.

My son was there to perform on open mike night. He recited Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. Listened to a guitarist play and sing familiar tunes, and ended with a one man comedy show.

The Turnage also offered free family movie nights.

If you like movies, fun, music, dancing, art, poetry, plays or almost anything cultural this is the place! They are open in the afternoons and evenings. They respond quickly to any Facebook messages you might send. There is something for all ages to enjoy or participate in year round. This place has been in Washington since the early 1900's and is wonderful and comfortable inside. Totally worth a visit, and the list of upcoming events are listed outside and on the internet, so you can always know whats happening.
