We booked the Nantahala non-guided tour ( we have experience whitewater rafting). We had a blast. This is a smaller operation but very well run, other companies has 20 rafts, we had only 4 this afternoon. Before we left, the guides did go over what to expect on the river and how to maneuver the rapids.
We plan to return to use this tour company next year, our children ( 12 and 15) are interested in longer and harder rapids.. so we will book a guided tour.
If you are experienced or even new to whitewater rafting, I highly recommend this tour group. Professional and well run!

Great outing, actually passed by other companies who took shorter and less exciting trips. Our guide Ian made sure we stayed safe while keeping it exciting all the while pointing out neat food stops along the way. Would highly recommend

Our family of 6 were all first timers and we couldn't have had a better time. It was thrilling without being too scary. Our guide, Matt was just wonderful. He was hilarious and kept us laughing the whole time, but then he also told us all about the history of the area. Just fascinating. On our next trip to NC we will definitely be back!

I have gone white water rafting on several rivers, by far Mac at Carolina Outfitters was the best all around guide and made our experience the most memorable. He demonstrated skill and professionalism and is very personable and fun. He was in complete control and was quick thinking helping other self guided rafters who got themselves in trouble exhibiting going above and beyond the call of duty which speaks loudly to his high character. Great guy, highly experienced guide and best white water experience ever! Ask for Mac, he is the best and Carolina Outfitters is a great expedition to book with.

We had a blast on our trip down the river! Dale is an excellent guide who is not only a skilled professional, but an awesome guy with an excellent sense of humor. We had our teen grands with us, and they said it was the best day of their vacation with us so far (and we have done a lot of stuff!). Carolina Outfitters is an excellent company made up of a great group of people. BP put us through our safety briefing, making it not only informative but fun. Dale guided us down the River, teaching us some mad rafting skills in the process. We will be back!!

We had a mixture of first timers and veterans on our boat. We went on Father’s Day. It was AMAZING!!! Mac is a great guide…knowledgeable, funny, and great manners. He told us some great stories, taught us a lot about rafting…highly recommend Carolina Outfitters and Mac!!! Smaller company with that home town feel! Thank you!!! We will be back.

We had an absolute blast with Dakota as our guide! His friend Patches guided my kids/grandkids raft, and they enjoyed it a lot too. He kept my youngest grandson safe, and guided in such a manner that all aboard enjoyed the ride. We have done this trip before through this company but Dakota really made it an outstanding trip- from his humor, to his antics, to his very skillful guiding of the raft, it was the best raft trip ever!! Hope to do a repeat next summer. We will definately ask for Dakota and Patches team again !!!

The rafting was great we went out without a guide ! First off They bash other local companies that offer rafting adventures . Not Cool ! They are all trying to make a living by offering there services to adventurous people . The older gentleman named bill in there store who sells memorabilia is just an awful man trying to rip off people jacking up prices that are not worth it . I had 3 shirts 2 sweaters , and a couple of mugs. I wanted some coasters and there was a price on the same set just a different color going for 12.99 with no price on the ones I liked so we asked him and he argued with me that they aren’t for sale . Then tells me that if I really want them then he’d sell them to me for $49.99 or you ain’t getting them . We will not go back we have been there 5 times and bought a lot of items but we will find another local company looking for some good customers . Sorry Bill.

I’d been down the river a few times many years ago, and was highly recommended Carolina Outfitters by a friend for the last day of my family’s vacation. From the minute we arrived every staff member we met was helpful, warm and hospitable and it was very clear their priorities are safety and memorable experiences. Our guide Nina was SUPERB, and treated my family to funny and historical points of interest along the way. Whereas my past guides from other companies barked out cold instructions, she and her piloting made our raft trip a highlight of our whole vacation!

Would recommend this company to every first timer. They made our family feel safe on the 1st trip of the season! Water wasn't as cold and the staff made everything possible to accommodate our needs expecting a cold day. Our guide Dakota went above and beyond with his knowledge and made it so much fun! We will use them again in the future!

Are dogs allowed on the excursion

Dogs are allowed on the river. They wear pfd's too! If you are going guided, then you would have a private guide because of the dog in the boat. Only your party would be in the raft with the pet. If you go non guided, then it is always just your party in the raft, and you could take your dog with you. If your dog has a pfd, bring it to the outpost with you. If you don't have a pfd for your dog, we have an assortment of types and sizes at our rafting outpost that they can wear on the trip. Fido loves rafting too!
