We decided to go to the museum on an impulse, finding many of the other area attractions were closed on Monday. It was well worth the drive. The museum has a lot of area history and I was especially fascinated with the exhibit on the Wasps from WWII. The staff was very helpful, as was everyone else we met in Top Sail.

Nice little museum in a quaint beach town. They have lots of stuff inside to see. There are exhibits of photos, memorabilia, videos, and artifacts about the missile assembly and testing that took place in the area. Also some cool info about the pirates and how Topsail got its’ name. Docent was friendly and knowledgeable. I don’t know how many people realize it’s there or how neat it is. Would love to see some nice shirts, hats, or stickers being sold there to raise money for it. Good time!

My husband and I were greeted by an enthusiastic volunteer who clearly loves the museum. After the orientation she presented, we followed the arrows to view all the displays. You'll learn about beach erosion and preservation, pirates (both male and female), the WAVES who served during WW II, operation Bumblebee (an early missile test program), the development of the OSPREY aircraft, and more. There are short films available, and you will be able to select those of interest to you.Definitely worth the time spent.

If you like military history take the time to stop here! The people are super friendly and it's free. Topsail was a missile testing site between 1946 - 1948. This museum is at the location where the missiles were built. Some great videos to watch there as well.

Take down the no firearms sign and I may spend money there. Other than that it could be a nice place.

Just as most public buildings and museums, we do not allow weapons on the premises.

Here's an idea.......when you are closed for an extended time period, you should really work on your website etc. by stating that you are closed for an extended period for repairs before people drive down the boring island to see your museum.......common courtesy, something you should use!!

something for older kids and teens- or adults. Not recommended for younger kids.
Mine are 10 and 9 and enjoyed it. But it only took about 20 minutes to look at everything

All the boys (10 to 60 y/o) took some time to go to the Missiles and More Museum. We throughly enjoyed the experience of learning what an important part Topsail Island played in the development of rocket technology. The next time back to Topsail I will be sure to include “the girls” in this trip. I always try to show the Grand daughters anything that empowers them as females and what can be achieved when gender is not taken into account. The portion of the museum about the female pilots of the WASP was a missed opportunity to do just that. Their story was well represented as was the story of African-Americans in the military and civilian life as well. I try to show my Grand Children the story of inequality African Americans encountered in everyday life so they can better understand the past and current events. It is as important for white young people to see the wrongs by their race as it is for young people of color to understand the story of generations thinking they were better than someone else because of the color of their skin. The museum is fairly small but the many stories it tells are huge!!! Take some time out of your busy vacation, slow down, and learn while you are on Topsail Island. It will make for a much better trip and the memories you make.

Thanks again!

My wife & I visited this museum upon the recommendation of our son-in-law who has been there in past years. We learned that recent improvements have been made to the the “chronological flow” of the exhibits as compared to previous years’ displays. I had known a little bit about the top secret Operation Bumblebee that had been carried out on Topsail Island just after World War II. But, let me tell you… the museum covers a LOT of island history in addition to that effort. We were graciously greeted by Janine, who, as it turns out, had been instrumental in the reorganization of the museum’s history-presentation-flow design. Janine provided us a wealth of information about the history of the island. We found her explanation about the naming of the island… “Topsail”… very interesting, indeed!

Whether one’s interests lie with rocket/missile development… the World War II encampment of Camp Davis… early Indian history… or PIRATES… this is a great place to spend an hour or two. The museum also includes a large display of seashells reflective of the sea life that is found in the area.
