After speaking with Alex, he knew the exact type of guide I needed. I had a wonderful day on the river with Josh Smith. I am a neophyte when it comes to fly fishing so Josh placed me at the front of the boat so he could keep an eye on me as well as teach me. Josh is an outstanding teacher. He is very patient and teaches with a bit of humor…never condescending and always encouraging. In the end, the true measure of a guide is to put you on fish and holy cow did we get some fish. I would highly recommend Josh for anyone looking for a guide who will fish as long as you like (never in a rush to end the day), teach/refine your technique and do so all the time having fun. Great job Josh.

Absolutely perfect day on the water with guide Josh Smith! No shortage of fish landed, lost count after 30. Super nice and well informed. Josh made me feel like I knew what I was doing while giving great instruction. Could not have been better!!!

Wow! What a day on the river with Brennan. His guidance and knowledge of the Nantahala set the stage for one of the best fishing experiences my friend and I have had.

He taught us the refined techniques of euro-nymphing that resulted in catching a lot of fish which include brooks, rainbows, native rainbow, and browns. I have to say it is the first time I have caught 4-different types of trout in one day.

Tom and I will be back in the Spring of 2022 with several other friends for another adventurous day on the river with Brennan. THANK YOU, BRENNAN.

Alex took me to Straight Fork in the Smokies to learn to fly fish again. I love the outdoors, and this spot was absolutely perfect! Alex spent a lot of time with me, sharing his skills and knowledge, and being very patient with my novice abilities, too! I loved my adventure and can't wait to go back! I totally recommend Alex Bell!

My Dad and I recently took a trip to Sylva to catch some trout. After researching guides, we figured AB seemed pretty legit, and that was certainly the case. AB was an excellent teacher/coach, new the rivers' hot-spots, and was just generally interesting to speak with. We highly recommend booking a trip whether you're seasoned or just learning. Thanks AB! We'll be back to Sylva and will look you up when we're there. Cheers.

My wife and I have finished several times with Alex Bell on the Tuckasegee River and have had great experiences each time. On our most recent trip, we requested to fish a more remote spot on the Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail for a change of scenery. Alex took us to Moses Creek, a smaller stream featuring a series of pools, falls, pocket water for native Appalachian Brook Trout. The fish were eager and quick. Each pool offered a chance to hook up--if you used a good stealthy approach and good casts. I enjoyed the technical dry fly fishing and was rewarded with several beautiful wild brookies.

Alex knows fly fishing and has a deep knowledge of his home waters. He has always put me on fish--either in good numbers on the Tuck or elusive wild trout in the mountains. He is very genial, easy-going while at the same time knowledgeable and professional.

We highly recommend Alex Bell as your next fly fishing guide. My wife and I, both new to fly fishing, spent two half days with Alex. It was a relaxing, thrilling and memorable experience. Alex is a veteran fisherman and guide, and knows the western North Carolina rivers thoroughly. He had us fishing within minutes of arriving, with both of us successfully catching fish throughout the trip. He has a gentle, assured style to his instruction (must be from 30 years in education). We valued his deep appreciation for the area and the fish. More fun than catching the fish was the patient release procedure he instructed us to follow, so those fish will be there the next time!

I'm a beginner-level gal and I have been a little apprehensive about whether or not I'd make a good fly fisher, but my day with Alex was an absolute blast and very informative! Alex is fun, patient, and knowledgeable and I feel like I got a lot better over the course of our trip. Would definitely recommend fishing with Alex to girls & guys of all ages and skill levels!

Alex was our guide for 2 days of fly fishing on the Tuckasegee River. We had a great weekend catching brook trout and rainbow trout. Top notch equipment was provided. Alex is very knowledgeable of the river and its hot spots. He is easy going, has a great personality, and takes great care of his clients. It's obvious that fly fishing is his life's passion and his #1 priority is making his guests happy. I highly recommend his services!

Four of us from various parts of East Coast-NY to FL-met and stayed at a cabin on the Tuckasegee River. Two of us floated the Tuck with one of AB's guides-Ragan Whitaker. He was knowledgeable about the river and found areas where fish were holding. I can't say enough about his personality, and skill with the float raft. Incidently, I caught a Tiger trout during the float trip, which is a first for me during the years I fished for trout.

Alex Bell acted as our wading guide for the balance of our trip. He is put all of us on fish and helped us enjoy our remaining too brief fishing experience on "The Tuck".

I hope to fish the Tuck in the future, and will use Alex Bell's guide service to help enhance our fishng experience.
