We had a place on Emerald Isle and I loved swimming more at Bear Island! You take a relaxing ferry ride from Hammocks Beach State Park to the landing on the island. It's a little bit of a walk across the center of the island to get to the beach but totally worth it. I suggest having something to wheel... More

I don't get to Hammocks Beach as often as I like. It is a beautiful beach and a great place if you don't want to be around alot of people. During summer they do have life guards on duty. If you don't have a boat you take a ferry ride over then a 1/2 mile walk to the water side.... More

We drove 4 hours to camp here but were told that all the places were full. It would've been nice to have seen that on the website. We heard it's a nice place, but guess we'll have to come another time. My advice is for them to updates notices on the website or make general non-site camping available

Catch the ferry ($5) leaves out every 30 minutes. Once on island easy 1/2 mile walk to beach access. They have a snack bar and bathhouse. The beach is not crowded , even on the most busiest of days! They have lifeguards on beach and state park rangers make patrols by truck around island. Can find lots of shells out... More

We have been to the area a number of times, but had not visited this park. We went on a HOT day with 3 generations of our family including a few small children (under 3). While you cannot bring carts to the island, strollers are allowed and made the walk from the dock to the beach easier for us. Only... More

Short ferry ride out to Bear Island from the state park. Beach was nicer than Emerald Isle. Not crowded. Good place for a family outing.

We popped in for a visit while exploring, will plan on spending more time the next time we visit. Ferry boat rides to the public beach. Nice visitor's center with fun and educational displays.

Wow! This is so beautiful. The beach, the waves, like a dream. The ferry ride over is a wonderful experience too. The walk to the beach is about 1/2 mile, but the path is paved. It is not difficult at all, I wear a knee brace and I did it with ease. It is worth the walk, it is like... More

The park is well maintained. For a nominal fee you can take the ferry over to Bear Island which is a beautiful natural beach area. It's the best around.
