Like so many of the golf courses in Myrtle Beach, Tiger's Eye has seen better days. This was the third disappointing course out of 5 courses we played on this vacation. This was obviously a very high end course at some point in the past. The club house, entryway, parking, pro shop, and lounges all show signs of having been top end years ago. When we played it, it was obvious that the course has not been maintained well for many many years. The tee boxes are weedy, fairways have mixed grass types, there is virtually no rough (cut short and dead in most places), many completely barren areas where the grass has just died off, cart paths broken up in many places, bridges in dire need of repair, gardens full of dead plants and weeds, runaway bamboo clusters in some places, many bunkers poorly maintained. The only good thing was the greens - virtually flawless. The layout is challengine but fair - my wife and I shot +7 as a 2 person scramble.
Staff were all very friendly and hospitable.

At some point there needs to be a rationalization of the number of courses in the Myrtle Beach area. There are too many to support too few golfers and the green fees being generated cannot support so many high end courses. The catch 22 is to lower the green fees to get more golfers, but there still may not be enough cash to support the courses... We paid over $110 (Canadian) per person for a very disappointing experience. There is way better value in parts of Florida, Arizona, and northern Michigan.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your visit to Tiger's Eye. We are happy to hear our staff treated you very well and that you found the greens to be in excellent condition. As for the other condition you described, we deeply apologize we were unable to meet your expectations on this visit. It is certainly no secret that pandemic-related hardships have contributed to unprecedented difficulty in maintaining many businesses in our nation. (For example, it seems there is a Help Wanted sign in the window of practically every customer service business in the country.) Beyond that, it has been an extremely dry spring and we have had to manage our water usage very wisely to navigate this situation. In addition, due to these warm, dry conditions, the winter rye grass is transitioning out a little early this year and we decided to go ahead and spray the winter rye out with herbicide to speed up the transition process. Now that the warm weather bermuda grass will no longer have to compete with the winter rye, the fairways and tees, etc will green back up quickly and will remain that way as we move through 2022 and beyond. We would like to assure you that we are diligently working daily to offer all of our guests the best playing conditions possible and a memorable and enjoyable golf experience. Again, I apologize we fell short of that goal during your visit. We will take your feedback and do everything in our power to address your concerns and improve our operation as we move forward. If there is anything further I can do to address your concerns, please reach out to me directly at blong@oceanridge.com and we will work with you any way we can to find a satisfactory resolution. Thank you again. Bill Long. Ocean Ridge Plantation Golf

Played a nice round here in July. Course was in good shape. Greens were a little slow, were a bit fuzzy. Sand traps could use some maintenance. Layout was fun but no pushover. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Club house is beautiful. Be sure to take in the view from the back deck, it's a golfer's dream.

Thank you very much for the nice review of your visit to Tiger's Eye. It is definitely a beautiful course and the view from the clubhouse is amazing! We apologize the greens were a little slow on the day you played and particularly for the bunker conditions. We have had over double the typical rainfall for this area over the past 30 days and every time we get them nicely rake, we get another deluge and they wash right back out. With the extreme shortage of willing labor due to the pandemic, bunker maintenance has certainly been a challenge, but we are working hard daily to improve that and all aspects of our operation. We hope you will visit us again and see our continued improvement!

Tigers Eye was in absolute horrible condition! Fairways and tee boxes were secondary rough length. Greens were bumpy and extremely slow, probably “2-3” on a stimpmeter or long shag carpet slow! Obviously lacking in consistent quality maintenance. For a referenced “premier” golf course this was as bad as I have ever played, certainly not worth the time or money! Person in pro shop was far from cordial...hey you’re in the South, try putting a smile on your face and being pleasant!!
However will say, the elderly gentlemen that were starters/rangers/bag guys were very nice and helpful, the only good experience of the day was talking with them!
Would NOT recommend Tigers Eye even if the round was FREE!

I am very sorry to hear of your unsatisfactory experience on your recent visit to Tiger's Eye. First of all, I apologize you were not treated in a more respectful and appreciative manner when you checked in. That is totally unacceptable and we will address that immediately. I also apologize we fell short of your overall expectations. Despite the many challenges we have faced this year, including losing our entire peak spring season to the Covid-19 related restrictions and the overall breakdown of the global supply chain which caused great delays in receiving materials we need, as well as the difficulty keeping a willing workforce (many found they can stay home and make more than by working) we have continued to strive to offer our guests good playing conditions and to also keep our dedicated employees working as we all weather this difficult time together. As we entered the summer, and really well into the summer, overall course conditions remained very good, as evidenced by the reviews you see on this site and others during that period. As the summer wore on and conditions became more and more rainy and hot, this caused an explosion in growth of grass and the incredibly wet conditions made it impossible to mow for days at at time. This coupled with the difficulty in getting herbicides and mower parts in a timely manner (again, due to supply chain issues all over the world) The courses became much more "fuzzy" than we would typically anticipate, even at this time of year, when prices are at their lowest. The good news is that we have finally seen some improvement in supply fulfillment and we and excited that we will be able to get completely caught up with the mowing and spraying as we enter the busier fall season. We fully expect all The Big Cats courses to be in very good condition as we move through the coming days and weeks and we can all put this very challenging and difficult period in our lives behind us. Again, I sincerely apologize we were not able to meet your expectations on this visit, but we would appreciate the opportunity to have you come back and play Tiger's Eye (or any of the Big Cats courses) again at your convenience, as our guest. if you are interested in doing that, please contact me at blong@oceanridge.com and I will make arrangements to send you a certificate for a complimentary round. Thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your patience and patronage very much. Bill Long

I have now played all of the Cat courses and have a hard time picking a favorite. Tiger's Eye offers a really nice layout, some great risk/reward holes and plenty of variety. I played with a big hitter who enjoyed taking aim at a couple of the reachable par 4s. Aesthetically pleasing course, with plenty of water, but no crazy forced carries. Hope to return.

Just moves here in January and have played 8-10 courses in the area. Tigers Eye has one of the best layouts of those courses. However, that is where it stops. The conditions of the other courses are far above the conditions at Tigers Eye. You realize it right away when you play hole No. 1 and the so called fairway is full of weeds. A lot of maintenance is need on this course.

Good day and thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Tiger's Eye. We sincerely apologzie we were not able to meet your expectations on that visit. I'm not sure if you actually played recently or if this is from and earlier play date, but I wanted to bring you up to date on our current situation. Due to the extreme drought that basically encompassed all of April and May, we had to use extreme caution in our chemical applications regimen, as even selective herbicides can significantly impact bermudagrass when it is in such a weakened state. Unlike many courses in our area, we have no underground water source, so we are greatly dependent on Mother Nature to keep our ponds full so we can irrigate the courses properly. In rare times of extreme drought (such as this spring) we have to carefully ration our water to make sure we have enough for greens and tees and that can result in brown and firm fairways that might appear "dead" but is just a state of dormancy until more water is available. Since we have received a modest break in the drought over the past 10 days or so, the courses have all greened up considerably and we have been able to treat invasive plants much more aggressively. The results have been dramatic already and will continue to improve daily now that the weather has cooperated. So again, we apologize you did not catch us at our best, but we hope you will return soon and see our continued progress.

Had a great time at tigers eye. Course was in great shape on a hot summer day, friendly staff from the pro shop, cart guys and beverage side. I haven't been here for about 3 years, and forgot how fun the course can play. I def recommend to anyone coming down to the beach

This was the second February in which I've played Tiger's Eye and Panther's Run. Once again, I was impressed by the condition of the courses as well as the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Winter greens can be a challenge, but these greens were in fine shape. I'll return next February.

Thank you so much! Yes, Tiger's Eye has come a long way in a short period of time and cudos have to go out to our new Director of Agronomy and his dedicated and experienced staff of superintendents. What an amazing job they have done. We fully expect this trend to continue and are so excited at what the future holds for all The Big Cats courses! Thanks again and we hope you will visit us again very soon!
