Fun and relaxing, best with kids..!

Nice site to visit. I haven't been there, other than driving by, since they completely rebuilt the fort. It's a site to see, gun ports and all. Within 40 yards there are picnic tables, weather permitting. When I was inside a volunteer told me about the history of the fort, showed me arrow heads.. and I forget what else there was. The site is supported by the community. I'll bet kids would enjoy it, and there are woods and a trail near the picnic tables. Leave a few dollars donation if you can..!

The fort is an awesome reconstruction, but what really set this site apart was the excellent tour guide. He was very engaging and tailored the experience for out 9yo son. Will definitely visit again!

Ft. Dobbs

I grew up a few miles from the Ft. Dobbs site. The fort was erected during the French / Indian wars around 1756. Excavation of the site began in earnest in the1970s. The footprint of the fort was established and a complete replica of the fort was completed in the last few years. There are scheduled re-enactments throughout the year. Check their website to find out when.

Lot of history in a little area

Very cool little historical site. It was a reenactment weekend so there were people cooking, making tools, & making rounds inside the fort. Little bit of hiking behind the fort & a cute little gift shop to stop in as well.

Although the wind was blowing strong the cast were so involved in explaining every aspect of that era you couldn't stop listening to them.A great job by all!!

Fantastic Restoration
Oct 2019
I'm a history buff and I have visited many forts around the world. Fort Dobbs is truly different from anything I've experienced before. Most wooden forts are log houses inside a wooden or earthen wall, but this wooden fort is incredible considering the time period when it was originally built. The tour is excellent and covers a lot of details of construction and life in the fort. This historic site is truly worthwhile to visit. Take your time and take many pictures. North Carolina has done well restoring this piece of history. Kudos!

Forgotten History

Fort Dobbs was very enjoyable. Thank you too the knowledgeable guide we had . Much of our American history has been destroyed . There was a fort here in the seventeen hundreds . The fort was long gone but has been rebuilt to original plans . If you love history you will enjoy your visit .

Return after grand opening of fort.

My wife and I returned to Fort Dobbs after the new fort Grand Opening. Was given the guided tour and was even more delighted by the period furnishings and armament. This is a first rate historical monument and living history site. Don't miss this one when you are in the Statesville area.

The recently finished replica fort is amazing and eye opening! Great lesson in history of early life on the frontier in the early days of what would become our nation.
