Looking for something fun to do?
Jan 2020
My girlfriend and I took her two boys, 10 and 13. We chose the Under Pressure experience. A story wrapped in local history and paired with "time travel". We had so much fun. Both boys got into the experience and had such a fun time they immediately began asking to return. We were unable to finish our "escape" but still had a lot of fun. We are going back to finally turn that sill off and stop the explosion. The owner talked with us and his excitement got us into a fun mood. The experience is immersive and I can see why this place should be on the top of everyone's list when they are looking for something fun to do. One of the funniest moments is when the 10 year old was tasked with making a phone call on a rotary phone. He stared at it and responded "How does this work?" You will love this place.

Great rooms, friendly staff, amazing location
Feb 2020
We stopped by to try out all three of their rooms: Under Pressure and Redemption, plus their holiday room. The rooms were fantastic and the staff were amazingly friendly.

First, you gotta see this place - the business occupies a historic landmark church and is beautiful on the inside.

The rooms themselves are a fantastic mix of different sorts of puzzles and surprises. Great use of special effects, sounds, and lighting to really bring the rooms to life. The rooms are mostly non-linear, letting each of us work on different puzzles. And the amount of experience they tuck into the (sometimes small) spaces of a historic church is mind-boggling.

Thank you so much for the detailed review. I hope it helps guests looking for a place to go. I simply love sharing this amazing building with so many. In less than two years we’ve shared this formerly abandoned treasure with over 15k people. It provides us a chance to use creativity to make the space so more but we love that challenge. New room under construction so plan to come back.

Meh
Dec 2019
Holiday room had lot of stuff in it, which they said was so everyone had something to do, but it felt cluttered with random puzzles and made us miss the more interesting moments. Lots of noise inside and outside the room which detracted from the experience of being truly immersed and focused on the environment of the game! Made it out, but overall experience wasn't as fun as other rooms we've done.

No puzzles in the room are there unless there’s a reason but it is a busy room. Some people like a more linear flow and we design very non-linear rooms. Immersion includes the amazing sound effects and we are glad to accommodate if guests are sound sensitive. There is a place to note that when booking. Again... all of our rooms are designed non linear, full immersion and include lighting, sound and sometimes other effects. It just might not be your style and we respect that. Photos of the exact rooms are available on this site and others so players can see our decor is very detailed. Thanks for coming and play on! Many other facilities offer more linear play without the sounds you found distracting.

Nutty Escape Room is a MUST DO!
Dec 2019
I will get straight to the point... If you looking at these reviews because you are wondering if this place is worth booking the simple answer is YES x 10! If I could give this place a 6/5 I would! This is the third room we have done here (it is number 28 of our completed rooms) and each one is better than the last! The Nutty Holiday room is only around a for a short time (ending in March) and that just blows my mind because the work and creativity that went into this room is really fantastic. One warning to all first time players is this place will raise your expectations of escape rooms. Not all escape rooms (Even those that are very fun and well put together) are to the level of the rooms at this establishment. They go above and beyond with EVERYTHING! If this is the first escape venue you are going to, it is the equivalent to eating at a 5 star restaurant, escape game venue wise! Our game master Sierra was fantastic, and the owners of this establishment are not only great designers and business owners, they are great people with big hearts too. Our family is super excited to see what puzzles, effects and tricks they will create to put in the space of Nutty Holiday! SO go and do this room before it is gone!

Thank you so much for this great review. Nutty is a little different than the average room but we had fun creating it and are already working on the plans for the next room opening this spring. You’ll love it!!! See you again soon

Fun for the Holidays
Dec 2019 • Family
We were looking for something to do while school was out. I will say that we had a great time and the staff was amazing. Sierra walked us through the story and then set us on our way. The clues were interactive and made it even more fun. I highly recommend.

Amazing staff. Game was okay.
Dec 2019
We've heard wonderful things about Key to Escape and were excited to visit. For context, our group had players with a range of experience (from 10 to 200 escape games).

The positives: extremely friendly and engaging staff, beautiful historic space, some cool technology.

While we successfully escaped Nutty Holidays, we did not really enjoy the puzzles or game setting. I'll try to expand on the issues without giving anything away.

Many of the puzzles involved counting or finding numbers, which started to feel like busywork after a while. We encountered a lot of 4-digit codes and, because of the structure of the game, spent a lot of time calling out codes and trying them in the many possible locks. It felt like there was minimal cohesion and flow. A lot of the decorations seemed to come from a thrift store or Cricut machine, which distracted from the elegance and cleverness of some of the tech puzzles. Finally, there was a cacaphony of constant noise (holiday songs, jingle bells, sound effects, etc.). While some audio was important to the game, the overall amount of noise made it difficult to focus, communicate, and recognize when something happened.

Overall, we felt like some thoughtful edits would've elevated the experience and made for a more enjoyable game.

Thanks for your review. We do provide an immersive experience and that includes audio as well as an elaborate decor. Since images of our room are available online, it’s easy to see that our rooms are very immersive in this way and hardly thrift store quality. Regarding audio, as soon as my staff assessed your group had sensitivity to audio, we were able to turn off any sound effects that were not essential to the room but I do think it detracted from the experience. We had to turn off the ball drop countdown clock which is designed to keep you aware of your time remaining because a click was distracting. We never have a problem accommodating for special needs but it would have been helpful to have had you fill out the request when booking as there is a space for that. Sadly, all of our rooms involve this same fully immersive experience. All of our rooms have decor floor to ceiling. We love our tech but it is only part of our games. We don’t want guests to be in a boring room with only a few tech puzzles. That’s just not our style. But I respect our style could be distracting to some who need things less immersive. I’m sorry our style was not everything you would have liked. However, our rooms will continue to be designed in this elaborate manner. Again, for guests with any accommodation needs identified when booking, we can make changes in advance. This includes sensory integration problems; sensitivity to light, smell, sound or other effects. We have alternative timers we could have placed in the room. But making drastic changes in the moment of the room run is difficult and detracts from your experience as we can’t put alternatives in the room. Often, because of the coding involved, we simply can not change some things on the fly. So the question regarding special needs asked during booking is an essential question to answer for us to meet you specific needs in advance. We do use many techniques to help guests know a code goes to a certain place. Some of these include Cricut machine riddles or images. We find that enthusiast bias expecting the room to run like other rooms can cause people to overthink obvious connections. That’s why we say we are designed for all players... our best time in that room is from a group of people new to escape rooms that just caught on to things and communicated well. Thanks for the feedback. Our style just might not be a good match for you.

Under Pressure
Dec 2019 • Couples
We went through the room "Under Pressure" and it was truly a high-pressure experience! The moment you step into the room you instantly feel like you have stepped back into the 1920s as a Revenue Police Officer attempting to save the city from a moonshine still exploding. A ton of puzzles, awesome locks, and amazing special effects truly made this experience the best escape room we have ever completed (we have done over 25 rooms, total).
We completed this room with two people, however being experienced with escape rooms helped. For first timers or those who aren't as experienced, I highly suggest 4 or more people, although a good 2 or 3 person team with great teamwork will do well!
Sierra, our game-master, was fantastuc. She was particularly good at giving you a small push in the right direction when you needed it.
This is one of the best escape rooms we have done and truly look forward to escaping from more rooms in the near future!
