The eateries are great, the seaside scenery terrific, and the people of Southport are the epitome of Southern Hospitality...we love the area so much, we will soon be moving there after 20 years or so of just vacationing...can't wait!

We took the ferry to fort fisher which is a great value for $5. A nice easy ride with some good long distance photo ops of 3 NC lighthouses. I would highly recommend this if your traveling along the NC coast.

The ferry from Southport to Fort Fisher does not leave from the Southport Marina but I couldn't find any other place to put this review. The ferry is operated by the NC Dept of Transportation and it leaves every 45 minutes from 1650 Ferry Road, Southport.

The ride costs just $5 for you, your car and everyone who fits inside. The best bargain! You can also ride the ferry for $1 as a passenger only (no vehicle). it's the best deal in town.

The ferry is a convenient way to get back and forth from Southport to historic Fort Fisher, the aquarium and Kure Beach. The ride takes about 25 minutes.

Reservations are not accepted, so be sure to arrive early. During tourist season, plan to arrive at least one hour prior to your scheduled departure time. The ferries fill up quickly. Don't be surprised if the ferry you hoped to ride is already full.

As you near the ferry location at Southport, the road will likely be well backed up with cars. That is the line to board the ferry with your vehicle. It would not be unusual in the summer months to wait an hour in that line. If you wish to ride as a passenger (no vehicle), you can go around the line and park. Parking is free.

Be aware that if you ride as a passenger (no vehicle) you will need someone to pick you up on the other side. It would not be advisable to try to walk from the Ft. Fisher ferry station to the aquarium. The road is narrow and curvy and about 2 miles long. It is not pedestrian friendly.

The ferry has an air-conditioned area, restrooms and vending machines. It also has open-air seating. Pets are allowed, but they must remain in vehicles.

The ferry ride itself is a delight. Nice breezes, pretty scenery and you can bring stale bread and feed the birds, who follow the ferry.

Marina is well organized to handle the Ferry volume on the heavy days. Parking to unload or load can be challenging at peak times on Saturday and Sunday, but patience will yield a spot. If you have a lot of goods going/coming, use of one of the Marina workers would be worth payment of a tip. There is a snack shop on the upper level if you have a wait for the Ferry. The staff at ticketing and those working the loading operations are all helpful. Parking is available for around $10/day, and a short wLk back to the terminal. Ferry tickets are sold in pairs (going over and the return). For the last ten years, we have found the ferry running on schedule. The only issue we have had was some luggage not being on our ferry. We just had to wait for the next one.

We usually take our boats out of this marina. Plenty of space for boats to yachts. Very friendly/helpful people. Everyone here is family.
Easy walking to restaurants. There is gas and basic supplies on site.

I love this area where the river meets the ocean. Several great restaurants and knick knack shops nearby. Plus this is a beautiful riverfront area with historic homes.

If you have never taken your car on a ferry, this is for you. We took our car on the ferry to save on driving to Fort Fisher to go to the North Carolina Aquarium. Everyone had a great time. The town when you ride through is so quaint, I wished we had the time to stop and stroll and stop in the shops, but unfortunately we didn't. It's a great deal if you are going that way, but get there early to avoid the line, they can only take a certain amount of cars on the ferry. It's like 45 minutes between ferries!

Although the marina is beautiful with great staff and within walking distance to town, our primary reason for returning twice a year (while traveling the ICW) is to hear Hank's free nightly lecture and having professional service done by Zimmerman. We've been doing this for the past four years. Having Hank and Zimmerman at this marina is a definite asset!!!

Southport Marina is a beautiful stop. We were there for Military Appreciation Day (MAD) and the staff was great. Fuel, gas and diesel are reliable and prices reasonable. It is popular with the transient boaters as well as the locals. Restaurants and hotels within walking distance. Thanks Southport Marina for hosting another MAD event

Beautiful spot to watch the boats in one of our favorite coastal towns! Many spots sill be familiar as a lot of movies are filmed in the area, including on the deck at the marina. The rangers are helpful as well.
