Overnight visit

Lovely community. Not as close to Wilmington as I anticipated - approximately 30 minute drive away. Alternately Southport town is very close and very interesting.

If you visit the area, there is NOTHING you can do here, because they won't even open the gates to let you drive through. It is a private neighborhood, so why would that even be consider a thing to do on TripAdvisor? Don't bother going.

We visited ST James and Southport in July 2015, and decided that is where we would buy our retirement home. Yes, almost everything that other reviewers have said is true. Avoid the sales office, they want you to but a lot of land in a currently undeveloped area, so that the number of homes increases. My previous buys bought at... More

Stayed with friends & what a beautiful community. Not far from the beach and this property has a Beach Club on the beach with a pool. There is a resturants by the Marina that has killer French Toast & Omelets. Huge property with nice folks!

I should straight off that we decided not to move into St James Plantation. We were put off by the general attitude in the sales office and by the long wait at the gated entrance to get in. In the end we felt that St James may have gotten a little too big as it had lost that welcoming feeling.... More

This community is beautiful. We are looking for a place to retire, and although this isn't age-restricted, it seems to fit the bill. We loved eating at Tommy Thompson's Grill & Tiki Bar at the marina. We also had fun at the outdoor pool at their private beach club on Oak Island. We weren't here long enough to play golf... More

We took a tour, with the idea of buying a condo. It is beautifully kept, has huge homes, smaller homes and condos. The bad part about the condos is the the 3 floors that must be walked up. He said usually the first floor ones are the most sought after for obvious reasons. The condo has the main area and... More

I recently visited St. James Plantation for a wedding. The venue was great, the staff were all excellent! The wedding I attended was outside, however cocktail hour and the reception were inside the bar and and ballroom.

Well so much info about this place good and bad. Here is my two cents worth. It is a nice community and has great amenities. I do think it is ridiculous that they ticket you for going 21 in a 20 zone. As a law enforcement officer how can the calibrate anything radar to that level of accuracy! So I... More

My wife and I went to visit some friends in Southport, N.C. at the St. James Plantation. This is a gated community, so access to this restaurant is difficult, unless you arrive by boat. I enjoyed fried oysters, which were some of the best I've ever eaten. The fries were homemade and delicious. To my surprise, on tap, was Yuengling... More
