Just walking through the store and taking in all of the history, the stories of families and children and Grandparents all shopping at this historic place.
I'm so glad I noticed, and bought, some of Charlie's Sage Sausage. Haven't tried it yet however, I'm confident it will be amazing.
The lady at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. I'll definitely return.

And we love having such a nice review from you!!! Thank you for making us feel like it's worth the effort to hang on to a 128 year old family owned grocery store....now in its fourth generation of the same family.

We get to Saluda quite often and always stop at Thompson's for anything and everything they have to offer. Their Chicken Salad, Sage Sausage, Pimento Cheese ... great wine selection and all sorts of fun finds. We love it! And when you're there, ask to see their Venue space upstairs ... Lola's Celebration Venue. We just held our Wedding Reception there and it was the perfect space. Wood floors, high ceilings, historic charm ... Judy of Thompson's is so easy to work with we hope to hold another event there sometime soon! Great, great place & staff!

Paul -
Wow!! You sure know how to make our folks feel good. Because we are a small business it is incumbent upon us to please all customers by providing excellent service, quality products and attractive facilities. Hopefully we will be able to survive for another 100+ years. It is especially nice to know that store manager/business partner Judy Ward made sure that your expectations were recently fulfilled.
Congratulations on your marriage and thank you for allowing Lola's Celebration Venue to be a part the event

Whether a grocery or general store, Thompson's is special.
A little of this and a pinch of that is about what to expect.
Not fancy, but an oasis for local residents.
This old-time (1890) establishment is a Saluda "institution" and a must visit.
Fun!

This is truly an old time general store. There is much to look at and reminisce about as you find items you may not have seen in a long time.

Saw a sign for local honey outside the door. Bought the honey and looked over all of the other local canned produce. Small store but a nice variety of items.

This is the oldest continuously operating family grocery in North Carolina. Judy Ward is generally at the cash register. She and Clark Thompson, cousin of her deceased husband, own the store. The owners have put in love and money and upgraded the store and the attached venues. The store offers great meats hand cut to order, gourmet cheese, homemade frozen entrees, great homemade pimento cheese and lots of gourmet items along with all the usual staples. Three is a good selection of moderately priced wines. There is also the "Boarding House Venue" which is a beautiful space over the store used for weddings, receptions, etc. The porch upstairs overlooks the back-yard venue which has a restored barn with porch and outdoor dance floor. Summer often means outdoor music events but every season means a warm southern welcome when you walk in the door.

This is a quaint country store in a small and nice mountain town. If you need to buy some groceries or get a bite to eat, it is a good, choice, but probably not a tourist attraction.
