The views were amazing . We went in the evening when the heat was less pinching. One can walk around at ease and hop on little heaps of White Sands on white sands . The experience was amazing.

The dunes were great fun! Please come with a 4WD to be able to explore the dunes better. Wear a hat/sunglasses/mask as the wind can get pretty strong and getting fine sand in your eyes can be dangerous. Sandboards can be rented from a lot of places. We got ours from the nearby gas station for AUD10/hr with a AUD50 deposit.
Also, depending on the weather that day apparently there can be flies. A LOT of them. such were our experience.

The dunes are always amazing and breath taking every time I go.
Hire a sand board from one of the local shops, climb up and find a smooth dune or a path that a sand board has already run down, stay away from the high traffic areas as the foot prints in the sand will slow your board.
If your into motorbikes and quads, you can hire them at the entrance to the dunes, but be careful when u go over the dunes as they sometimes have really steep drop offs. Or people on the other side.
Ride up the side of it along the ledge first.

Nice way to spend a day on the coast! we got there at about 10am and got some sandboards for the boys. they loved it! with the 4WD we found our own dune to hang out for the day. Amazing view of the beach from there too! This is definitely the new hangout spots for school holidays! kind of over priced to hire the quadbikes, buggy and dirtbikes though. still had good fun and made great memories!

Awesome place for 4wding and shenanigans. Weather was great and plenty of wind for those kite surfers. We had a mini BBQ and properly enjoyed our time. Even the young boys had a great time out there.

Beautiful place, great fun and not too far out if Perth. Whatever you do don't hire your sand boards from 'have a chat' store. They were old and didn't slide at all. Our kids were watching all the other kids having such a great time and they were going no where. We had locals trying to help us, all the wax in the world wasn't assisting the overused sand boards we hired. We saw another child having the exact problem and spoke to them, they had hired theirs from 'have a chat' too. So we went back to 'have a chat' and found they weren't so chatty. Too bad we were told. Just hire the boards from elsewhere if you want to have some fun.

Went for a family trip to the dunes on the WA Queens Birthday holiday. It was so busy the guy at the dunes renting boards for $10 an hour was out of boards. Had previously checked at the service station on the way in and they were doing boards for $20 for 2 hours. Lucky7 have wooden boards for $10 for 2 hours. We chose a smaller one with the bindings and 1 without. If I had my time again we would have just taken the larger one without the bindings. In the end we only used the larger one between the 4 of us which was fine, though might have been better if we had 2 between the 4. Those who had hired boards at the dunes were going quicker on the plastic ones.
Hot tips:
1) Where to get boards:
Lucky7 - $10 for 2 hours with $50 deposit (cash only) - note wooden boards, would pick the boards without bindings/ foot loops.
At the dunes - $10 per hour - has either wooden or plastic - plastic go faster
Servo on the way in - $20 for 2 hours (didn't check to see if plastic or wooden)
2) Getting to the dunes:
Go into town all the way to the end and turn right onto Gingin road, follow that down to the end and veer right at the Lancelin Beach hotel and then turn left onto Beacon road, a few hundred meters down the road turn right into the entry to the dunes. There is a park near the entry where you can hire boards, otherwise it is pretty safe to drive in closer to the dunes (even if 2WD).
3) Clothing
Wear sunnies - the glare is bad and you get sand in your eyes easy. Some have suggested wearing bandanas on your face, but we didn't really have problems (apart from when one of our little ones was on the board in front of us and they copped a mouthful).
Be preppared to get sand in everything!
4) Where to board
They guy renting boards recommended boarding on the dunes to the right as the dunes to the left had lots of little rocks at the bottom. We found that if you followed a track that had already been made we went faster.

We, a group of 4 people went to Lancelin dunes in september end to experience what the hype was all about and I must say that I was so amazed the see the beautiful white sands. Though sand boarding was pretty slow that day coz it rained few days earlier so the sand was a lil wet from inside but still we all had so much fun.
The main attraction and a must thing to do was quad biking. Their truck was right at the entrance where they were giving boards on rent and the quad bike too. The guy was very friendly and helped me overcome my fear of handling that heavy bike. $10 for a sand board for 2 hours and $30 for half an hour of quad biking.
Our overall experience of this place was amazing and I am pretty sure to go back there someday again.

Sharing some tips that made our day more enjoyable:
• We visited in the morning and glad we did as the winds picked up later and sand blowing everywhere.
• We hired a sand board from the van located just inside the gate at the Lancelin Sand Dunes, it cost $10.00 for two hours. We were given a candle to wax the bottom of the boards.
• The van just inside the gate is where you can also have 3 people join the driver in a fun filled 4wd buggy ride on the dunes and along the beach – this is so much fun - we enjoyed this the most. You are provided with a helmet and goggles to wear when in the buggy
• Take your time to properly wax the bottom of the board, this helps with speed going down the dunes.
• it can be a hike going up the dunes, but just stay at the top & catch your breath - it’s so worth it for the fun trip down
• Be sure to wear sunscreen and wear sunglasses (or goggles) to help with the glare from the sand and getting sand in your eyes (wrap arounds as much as possible)
• Bring bottled water as there is nowhere to buy at the dunes.
• The stones/rocks at the bottom of the dunes can be quite sharp/coarse so pick a spot where there aren’t rocks at the bottom
• Bring a hat sand goes everywhere and can be very windy
• Wear close fitting clothes like tights etc. as sand gets in everywhere
• Put your arms out in front and sit furthest back on the board to get a good ride.
• Can also hire quad bikes just inside the gate.
• There is no sign to indicate you have arrived at the dunes, just a gate. You can park near the van if you only have a car or drive a little further in through the gate to the right hand side of the van, but it is bumpy and rocky. 4wd’s of course can drive into and on the dunes.
• There are no toilets at the dunes
• We seen people take their dogs there so that seemed to be ok
• We went in February and seen a snake at the top of one of the dunes so take care
• Don’t carry bags and things to the top of the dunes, they get in the way and stop you from totally enjoying the ride down. Leave them in the car, you can see your car from where you are sandboarding.
• Bring a go-pro to take some footage on the way down the dunes
Stop at the endeavour hote;/pub on the way back through town for a few coldies and lunch, you’ve earnt it on the dunes!

We were unable to find the exact spot of the sand dunes initially. Set your GPS to GinGin town and look for Lucky 7 convenient store. You can rent a sandboard at AUD$10 per board. The staff there will give you clear directions to the sand dunes, about 400m from Lucky 7.
Pick your own spot and start sand boarding!! Its free~~ We had lots of fun there but it was tiring to climb back up. Great fun for both children and adults.

Hi, can I bring my own sandboard there?

Can you walk to the dunes or do you need a car?

You can walk on the sand dunes :)

Hi, how long should one spend at the sand dunes?
Written September 1, 2018
Are there readily available sand board rental companies for tourist to rent ? Can I do a self drive trip there rent the necessary gear to surf ? Are there designated areas for kids?

Is it safe to drive on a 2Wd close to the sand dunes? One of my friend’s car got stuck in the sand. Is it far to walk from the carpark to the sand dunes?
Written December 30, 2017
Better not. Although there is no proper carpark, the place where we parked our car (we rented a hatch back) is probably a good 5 minute walk to the dunes. If you just follow the signboard, you know that you have reached the ‘carpark’ when you see a small cabin that rents sandboard (for AUD10 per board per 2 hours). Park your car in front of the cabin area where the land is more ‘hard’.

Hi. I recently came across a Groupon voucher for the sandboard hire from MR Xtreme Thrill Rides, offering a "50% off" rate of $10 for 2 hours. From reviews that I've read so far, the normal rate offered by another rental company, Have A Chat, seems to be about the same price as this Groupon offer by MR Xtreme.... unless the reviews that I read were outdated and standard rate has gone up to $20 for 2-hours. Can anyone confirm what's the current rental rate that these guys are offering for the boards? Thanks in advance.

I've been to the area a few weeks ago and rented a sand board at the parking area inside the dunes for $10, unlimited hours. But it's from a different hiring company that was stationed there on a weekday.
