A long drive from Kalgoorlie in a camper van, lots of dirt roads after Southern Cross.
As we arrived at 2pm we headed for the cafe for lunch,"sorry we are closing" greeted us as we went to enter. The lady gave us some local information at the door. We paid our $12 & headed for the barbeque as our second option for food. Not working. I feel that to pay $12 for amenities that are closed or not working was a total rip off. I had a Pee in the toilet,a most expensive Pee i must say. The rock itself is super to look at & they claim there it is one of Australia's top attractions, whoever runs it wants to be careful they don't "kill the golden goose". Other visitors were arriving all the time making for the cafe, they must have lost a lot of revenue closing at 2. There is a wild life park,we couldn't find it, probably closed. The rock should be deemed an Australian heritage & as such free to visit.

Stayed at the caravan park so the fee was incorporated. Wave rock is different to other formations ive seen so now that ive ticked it off, i can see other things. The rock is tall but not as long as what pictures depict. One user mentioned tourists. Yes and plenty of them trying to get that ultimate surfing picture. My tip early morning 7am or late evening 6.30pm to avoid the buses. Do the hippos yawn too . Its a lovely walk.

The information Centre is not near the rock and tourist site we were told to pay at the 'kiosk'. The Park is signed that you need to pay entry but it didn't say where say where the 'kiosk' was and there was no one to ask. After searching we found a 'parking machine'. Wave Rock itself is worth a look...we also did the short walk to Hippo's Yawn. There are paths but very rough for a person in a wheelchair like me.

Thought we might be in for a bit of an eye rolling stop considering how our wide brown land is good at talking up rocky landmarks... but if you get out early and are ready for a bit of a stroll then JUST DO IT!
We stayed overnight in the resort on our way back from Esperance, and then up for an 8am start as the flies do like to join you for outdoor activities around Hyden so the cooler the air the better! Started at the base and did the full Bakers Trail walk and then up and across the top of Wave Rock, and an hour later we’re glad we stopped.
Also did the drive down to Hippos Yawn and Mulka Cave which were also worth it, not long stops but why not do them if you’ve made the trip! Hippo is a cool formation and Mulka’s macabre indigenous history is a story worth knowing about.
If you’re not into insects then forego looking fashionable and buy a fly net from the Wave Rock kiosk, as even with the pesky pests this part of the Wheatbelt was worth the stop for our family.

We did the 3.6km Wave Rock Circuit the day before to experience the sunset over Lake Magic and wanted to watch the sun rise at Wave Rock before we visited Mulka's Cave. At 5.20am, it was already bright so we thought we had missed the sunrise but decided to just go and climb up to the top anyway. Phew, we were not late and enjoyed the Hyden Walk trail whilst watching the sun rise. It was freezing cold though and thank goodness I had my gloves on.

This rock formation was really interesting and looks amazing with the different colours and it can change within a few minutes. We had time to walk along the wave at the bottom and also to climb up and walk on the top. The view was wonderful and we also saw lizzards.

We stopped at Wave Rock for 1 night at the beginning of our holiday around the South West. The caravan park was great, clean, excellent camp kitchen, clean toilets and its accessibility to Wave Rock was fantatsic. Straight into the park area and I trod on a small snake but it survived so keep an eye out for the reptiles around you.Walked up and around the rock was facinating and I really enjoyed it.Do bring a fly veil though as they are really bad and you will be doing the Great Aussie Salute the whole time if you dont. You have to pay a park entrance but because we were in the caravan park it was wavered.Hippos yawn is great too

Amazing place.
Don't expect too much when you get there, it is a rock and bush, not much else.
The caravan park is quite comfortable and they also have onsite cabins that are very good value.
A great place to get away and enjoy something different.
Take a walk on the boardwalk at either sunrise or sunset, you will see lots of wildlife.

We had mixed expectations about wave rock, and once we arrived we were very happy! Wave rock took our breath away, it is such a wonderful natural masterpiece. There is a few different choices of how far/high you wish to climb. Definitely worth the four hour drive from Perth and we recommend for people of all ages including children :)

We stayed for 2 nights. Wave rock is beautiful and very interesting. Learning about the geology makes it more special. We went very early in the morning and late afternoon avoid the heat.
We took the walk to Hippos Yawn, which was also nice. You can climb up on top of the rocks at various points. We definitely felt that it was a worthwhile stop on our way from Esperance to Perth.

How do I do a 2-day tour to Hyden without a car

Hi, We'd like to visit Wave Rock. Can we take our dog?

Hi! Will it be very hot in go in Dec? Or is there specific timing to go during the summer?
Written January 14, 2020
I would try to go early in the morning. I went mid day and it was very hot. Beware there are many flies there. In my opinion a person does not spend much time there maybe 1 hour.

Plan to visit Hyden over the Western Australia Day weekend. May stay overnight. Just want to know the cost of entry to the various tourist sites and also a night's stay for two.
Written May 25, 2019
Entry to the rock is free. There is a beautiful lace museum that is well worth a visit, with magnificent lacework created over many years. There is a charge to enter.

• How much is the entrance fee?
• Are bikes/scooters/skateboards allowed? How about dogs ahhaha
Written January 26, 2019
We stayed in our caravan at Wave Rock, I can’t remember what the cost was. As far as your recreational vehicles, skateboard etc you would have to ask them directly.
We took our dog which wasn’t a problem, on lead at all times like any pet friendly caravan park. Dogs aren’t allowed up on top of the rock but it was ok to walk around the base of the rock.
If there are a few of you, take turns going up the top & the other person looks after dogs.
It isn’t a huge rock but there are various rock formations along the way.
I hope this helps you.

Hi, it is AUD 12 per auto. There is plenty parking.
From the pedestrian walkway to the rock there are no vehicles (whatsoever) allowed.
I am not sure about dogs, but if they are allowed, they must certainly be lined-on. Going on the rock there are metal stairs, you may have to carry your dog.

2) How far is the distance from parking lot to the sight?....how far must we walk?
Written June 23, 2018

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone tried to walk to Wave Rock from Hyden. I'm a solotraveller and don't have a car. The lady in Trans strongly discouraged me to walk alone. Thank you!
Written May 14, 2018
Not to walk, there are a lot of day tour from perth to wave rock, i think it is a better solution.
