Very interesting and friendly place. The fish leather is beautiful (especially the glazed skins). We watched a video about how the leather is made and then we had a nice presentation from the owner about the use of fish scales. The products are beautifully made, and often seem to be combined with cow leather. The colours of the fish leather... More

We called in to check out the story they are making leather from discarded fish skin. Wow what an amazing enterprise. Not only are they producing a great range of quality unique leather goods, they are taking the concept of recycling to a whole new level. If you are in Australia's true southwest don't miss out on an opportunity to... More

I just thought that Mermaid leather sold leather only but I was so surprised at all of the jewellery they sold as well, kids stuff to keep the little ones happy and I noticed that they had an area to sit and watch a presentation (all about leather I suppose but haven't checked) and the service there was very appreciative... We visited this fish skin tanning factory and the time spent there was certainly not wasted. The process of tanning fish skins, otherwise wasted, was fascinating. The story unfolded mostly on video but as the business is small it was the better way. David gave more information and answered any and all questions. His knowledge and enthusiasm was inspiring and... More

Friendly staff who can thoroughly explain the process of turning this "waste" product into luxurious items. Well worth a visit as one of only a few places in the world that tan fish skins.

Another great cottage industry in Esperance. The video is very informative and the owner is happy to answer any and all questions. The end product is of very high quality and provides a good use of an otherwise "waste" product.

Just visited. Well worth a visit. The owner out a video in for us to show the procedure to tan the fish skins into leather. There is a shop where you can buy the products. I could have spent a fortune as the products are just beautiful. Some people are very smart with the ideas they come up with. Full... More
