My partner and I decided to go to Mt Bulla for an expensive treat and exciting treat, we ended up being treated with the worst hospitality and found it impossible to go out for dinner, as all restaurants kitchens were closed by 8:00 forcing us to have a take away pizza priced at $25 each at which the staff couldn’t even bring to our table, barely being nicer then a $5 pizza from Dominos. The overall experience on the snow was good for while it last and accommodation was great, but do not recommend staying over night, costing well over $1000 for a night and providing the bare minimum service leaving a very uneventful and expensive holiday.

When you booking ensuring you check the weather and get lucky, as the first night of our stay weather only permitted also limited 1 tiny ski lift to be open and waiting times of 30min + for 1 min of snowboarding. Out of everyone’s control we then spend the whole 2nd day in the medical centre as my partner had a sprained wrist avoiding a collision with a beginner boarder on our first run in the morning.

Recommend only day trips as the night life on the mountain was terrible, and be prepared for things to change and not be perfect condition.

Visited in the last weekend of the snow season so you’d expect things to be discounted as there was minimal snow. Everything full price except the tobogganing.
This place is very confusing for a first timer, no signs and when you ask for help all staff are rude and condescending treating you like you should know everything. No clear advice or signs or where to ski for beginners and no help from any attendants around the slopes.
The attendant at the ski school told us we needed us lift pass for skiing so we paid over $200 for this. Little did we know the lifts only take you to the super experienced slopes which you can’t ski down if you’re a beginner. We were only told this afterwards so we were tricked into buying the lift pass and never used it!
I would not recommend this place for first timers due to the extremely unhelpful staff and the lack of any info or help. Also the whole place is a total rip off, food is overpriced. Do not visit. Unless you’re a regular or pro skier you’ll be treated like crap. Should’ve spent our money on a snow trip overseas..

I don’t know why it’s the most popular snow resort in vic.
Easy, safe and least scary mountain to drive up and down, amazing shuttle service from the carpark, but that’s where the benefits end.
Rude parking staff, I know how to park my car I don’t need you rolling your eyes at me.
We got to the village and it was just overwhelming.
At the toboggan slope, (with loud music which was not necessary, the natural sounds of crushing snow and kids playing is all that is needed), at a cost, is tiny and not very much fun (the one near the carpark was closed). Although the staff did a good job of keeping people safe and not walking onto oncoming sliders and potentially getting crashed into.
We went on the scenic chairlift, it was nice but for what it was, was not worth the $$.
I printed my passes before we left.
We live locally, and won’t be returning. I took my son to experience mount buller and was not worth it. Mount buffalo, even without guaranteed snow (with machines) was free, bigger (faster) toboggan slopes, quiet, and a warm cafe.

Just went up in the recent peak period and it was just packed. They have now shut off access to the mountain other than the shuttle busses. I have no issues with that, however be aware that there are NO COVID controls in place and they pack the shuttle bus to the brim (would the shuttle bus be considered public transport?)
In Vic, it's still a requirement to wear masks on public transport and that could easily be implemented.
My family and I have since come down with COVID which had an ongoing effect of having to cancel our follow up holiday after this Buller trip.
If you're heading up to Buller, just be aware that there are no COVID controls in place and don't book anything a week after your trip.
On another point, not a good place for first time skiers as well, especially with young family. The walk up to the ski school is a good 300-400m walk uphill. A pain in ski boots and skis.

This mountain must be a joke. I usually go to Falls creek and Hotham and try to avoid Buller. This weekend's trip away reminded me why I avoid this mountain.
The mountain is extremely overpriced with very little to offer. Kids classes are poorly run and with parents trying to shelter in one of the local restaurants we were only given 45 minutes sittings and then had to sit out in the snow and rain. The wait staff were extremely rude and kept an actual timer. This was after we spent a heap of money for overpriced pizza and drinks.
I paid for half a day lift pass. Let me make it clear that this is an absolute scam. The half day starts from 2:00 p.m. . I managed to get one run in before I realised the line to leave the mountain was approximately an hour long. We then try to line up to leave the mountain at approximately 4:00 p.m. stood in the rain for an hour and a half to get on the bus and be taken to the car park. This was $100 to catch the lift once because the lines were so long to not only get on but to also leave the mountain. We even tried to be sneaky and walk across to the northern express to catch the lift down however the buses on the mountain refused to go to the summit and continue to only take customers to destinations that were considered popular. This meant we missed our opportunity to catch the northern express because it shot at 4:30. I have no words except for you aren't absolute joke

If I could give a lower than 1 would. 2 hours waiting in the freezing cold for bus to take us back to our car park. There was no logistical management of people getting on or off buses. There were hundreds of us all trying to cram into buses with no direction or guidance from Mt Buller staff.
People were screaming, pushing, yelling, pulling to get on and off the bus. The bus driver was screaming there were too many people on the bus with no help from Mt Buller staff.
I had 4 children with me who were hysterical with the chaos surrounding them. Mt Buller management are so lucky no one was hurt or injured in the chaos.
There is no where indoors where you can sit and eat your lunch or snack. Every single cafe, hotel, restaurant we visited was jam packed, that we couldn’t eat our lunch until 3pm.
Save your money and visit Mt Hotham, Mt Baw Baw or Lake Mountain. Because Mt Buller is terrible experience.

I have empathy for the employment challenges many are facing, however it’s really impacting Mt Buller with many poor staff and restaurants + lifts closed. We also found the entire mountain wildly overpriced ($12 for a reheated frozen pie, $17 for a plate of hot chips, $6 can of coke etc.. ) . Our lodge even tried to charge us $50 to store our bags for 4hrs on checkout day, the first time I have ever experienced this in 30 years of travelling. The overnight parking situation is an unorganised debacle, we waited 75 mins in a freezing carpark for a lift to our lodge with 10 bags and cold kids.. only to discover our unit actually has its own empty carpark under our lodge that we were not permitted to use because we didn’t own the unit.. hard to fathom. Finally the lifts have little / no signage in them, unless you’re a regular, it’s v hard to actually know where you are. A good little supermarket and some good runs to be had on the slopes, however we will head somewhere else next year.

From Southeast Asia, I went for a ski for the first time on 12 Aug 22 on Mt Buller before the season ended. However, staff from one of the shops on Mt Buller recommended purchasing one day lift which cost me a total of AUD290. The lift brought me to an area that was too steep. Instead of not asking to wait for the class, one of the staff did not provide helpful information about where to ski for the beginner.

There are many people in the area, so it was not fun. It was hard to control and balance myself during the ski. I also bumped into the barrier when I skied.

When I finished skiing early, the staff talked to each other while I struggled to take off the ski boots by myself. You may imagine how you feel if it is your first-time skiing.

Not very Pleasant experience for us. We were group of 8 families. We spent hell lot of money on buying snow clothes and boots and equipment to make sure that experience is memorable and beautiful. Spend heaps of money on car service and tyre change etc to make sure that vehicle is safe and reliable. Traveled all the way 3.5 hours. Paid for chains and went to check post. First staff member in the road let us pass after confirming with us to join the queue for pass. Traffic was very slow and after a long wait in queue. They let 7 cars to pass the check post booth and did not let us pass. as approx 3 minutes ago they were informed that parking is full. Many cars were also coming through. Waited for at least 15 to 18 minutes. Explained them that it’s a group trip, all 7 are gone and last car is ours but staff extremely rude did not want to hear anything and moved away from the booth and told us to leave. Ruined the whole day family trip.
3.5 hours backwards to drive. Altogether 7 hours drive and hell lot of money spent for nothing. Compared to services they offer, charges are many times higher but system and resources are still same old times, They need to improve the system for sure, should have few margin of numbers of cars for unseen scenarios / situations. Or should inform before hand that until this time they will be taking cars or improve on resources, or offer compensation on spendings at-least chains and should have trained staff, with improved communication system Etc. so not only adults but poor kids are not returning back crying with broken heart, left apart from rest of the group with the worse memory of this trip.

The shuttle bus drivers were very rude one yelling out that they are late cause people ask too many questions and we can’t catch the bus to the summit we have to buy lift tickets. That’s what the service is for !!!!
2 hot chocolates cost $20 what a joke!
The village has a section where people leave all there bags and belongings where there are bench tables and chairs with no where to sit if you want to have a snack or sit down without tripping over bags!
I put my backpack in a locker, maybe invest in more lockers so it’s not a OHS issue!!
Don’t spend any money at Buller go to other snow resorts will better service and amenities Buller is out dated!!
