Great place to work from when the internet at home is down.
Lots of space, nice and peaceful. The only problem is the book collection is a big distraction

The first thing that got me was the setting in an low density area, which meant it was set into Bush land. This no more evident than looking g out the window to see a possum coming to the ground. I alsike that you have access to two cafes. The library itself seemed very spacious and well zoned. Some many area is sit and read or work. Staff seemed nice.

Great place to come with toddlers to preschoolers for music & storytelling. Great book selection. Magazines & newspapers.
Lots of computers & staff to assist. I bring all my printing here now, easy! Only issue is finding a parking spot!

Mudbrick, sculpture and Creative Minds at work and play
Apr 2019 • Couples
I went to see the Creative Minds exhibition which was the exhibition of the students in Nillumbuk [the municipality to which Eltham belongs].

There were some avant-garde and edgy works in several media all around the fireplace and inside the mudbrick building of the Eltham Library.

There is an All Access Walk which directs people through this part of the library and also the carpet is decorated with leaves.

Two wooden sculptures are in the Library - one is of a kangaroo and one is of a man.

There is an interactive screen in the Local History section which describes places like Shillinglaw and the Library itself. Swipe or tap left to learn more.

The Local History section, like a sculpture outdoors on one of the paths, honours Alan Marshall [author] and Frederick McCubbin [artist].

There is a booming True Crime and Crime Fiction section.

The Teapot Cafe was not open at the time I was there.

If you shuffle your feet a lot you might not be welcome in the library.

Panther Place is a great location.

Eltham Library won an architecture award from the state of Victoria's architects in 1995.

The next exhibition is The Wisdom of Women.

More than books

One of the prettiest and best situated libraries I’ve seen. Love coming here and watching the trains pass over the trestle bridge

Our granddaughters wanted to borrow books from the library so we visited. Although the books they wanted were out on loan we were able to reserve them for the future. I noticed that quite a number of people were present in the library which indicated to me that it is highly thought of by the locals, why else would they be there? The library itself appeared very clean and well organised.

More than reading material

Situated between the historical Shillingllaw Cottage and the Eltham Trestle Rail Bridge this modern (1994) construction of an innovative design provides a range of activities and functions. Wander around the area or relax within its many areas including an art gallery
This library is so much more than books on shelves
