A real gem

A fabulous collection. We easily spent 2 hours here. The volunteers were super friendly and full of information. This museum while small is chockers full of memorabilia. Excellent work.

Want to know about Ararat's History and Heritage? - Here's the Museum to visit!
Nov 2019
The Museum has many fascinating objects, archives and stories. The name is translated from local aboriginal language to mean the ‘home of yesterday’. The displays include the heritage of the Aboriginal people, traditional clothing and farm machinery, and a renovated blacksmiths shop, and day to day objects relating to domestic and business life.
Ample car-bus parking and accessible washrooms. Books and souvenirs for sale.
Well worth a visit if you are interested in learning about Ararat and region history and heritage.

this museum is a hidden gem with so much history. I particularly fascinated with the funeral business machinery. There were many things to see and many i had notseen before. Time well spent

Great insight into the local community

If you want to get up close and personal with the events and people of Ararat, then this is the place. The are many stories of locals who have reached great heights at the national and international level, including their memorabilia. Additionally there is lots of information on local clubs and people. There are several 'rooms' displaying life in earlier times. As usual with these sorts of museums, people of a cetain age, like us, have a chuckle when you recognise familiar items from your younger days.

if you are a history buff for anything to do with the olden times of the Grampians region and beyond then this is the place to be, you never know, if you have family descendants from this area you may even find them in one of the history books. Entry cost is very minimal, the last time i was there, going by memory was about $5.00. lots to look at and read so make sure you give yourself lots of time. great one to visit.

Another hidden country gem
Aug 2016 • Friends
You stumble across this kind of attraction all the time in country Victoria. The attraction that not people know of and that's a shame. Sort of place you could spend hours looking through. Has a bit of everything. From the heritage listed building (1873) to the machinery on display outside alongside a blacksmith shop. When you hear inside you see 1000s of historical documents, photos etc dated back to the time of Ararat founding. To add to the eclectic collection you'll find memorabilia of local son and Olympic medalist Shane Kelly. Stop in Ararat to see this and many other great attractions in this pretty city instead of just driving thru.
