A must see for history lovers
Great experience. We found it so fascinating to see how people lived years ago and how hard they worked. We couldn’t believe how small the houses were and how the families lived there. Just loved looking through the herb garden and all the old things of the past. Do yourself a favour and go and have a look. Allow yourself time to read all the plaques.

    Fabulous walk down history.
This area is a fabulous walk through history. Being able to go inside and view historic buildings as they were in the day was so interesting. The gardens were a delight and very well kept. Well worth the time checking out this fascinating area.

    A walk down memory lane....
This is a beautiful area, with the heritage cottages maintained well by the National Trust. We made it a point to visit all the cottages as advised by the lady at the Visitor Information Center in Penola. Davidson, Sharam, Gammon and Wilson cottages all had beautiful gardens with a herb garden in the grounds of Sharam Cottage. The herb garden was maintained by just one enthusiastic lady, who now has a temporary helper for a few months. We learnt quite a bit about the herbs, and this was our first introduction to 'Borage'. There were many more herbs there that would be of interest to those with a special interest in the subject. This area is certainly worth a visit.

A short walk from the main highway, this quiet lane has 5 beautiful historic cottages with colourful well kept gardens. A nice place to stop and break up the journey.

What a relief that some pieces of history are retained.
It's a wonderful stroll around the 4 houses on display. You can enter 3of them Be sure to read all the information boards - there's a lot to find out about the area, and all interesting.
You can buy plants behind Sharma's Cottage. It has an Honesty Box- please do be honest, as the cottages are free to visit. We can't bring plants back to Victoria, but still popped a few $$$ in the box.
This is a great place to stop and see.

Part of Penola's historic walk Petticoat lane is a highlight. The local National Trust has done an excellent job of restoring these early settlers cottages and the gardens are wonderful. It was spring when we visited and the rose display was beautiful.

The historic buildings in this lane are very authentic. They are well preserved and well worth a look. There is adequate information available regarding the origins of the houses and their original inhabitants. Well worth a look.

To see Penola's past visit Petticoat Lane for well preserved cottages and colourful gardens. The street is still curbed with iron-bark timbers from eons ago. Well worth the walk as it is not far from the centre of town.

We had a short over night stay in Penola and had seen Pettycoat Lane on TripAdvisor. We spent a very pleasant hour wandering the short lane looking at the old homesteads. Two were open for viewing and is was fascinating getting an insight in to yesteryear. One had a huge garden where you could help yourself to herbs and donate for the fresh vegetables on display. Well worth a visit and a pleasant change from today's hustle and bustle life.

We visited this little historic lane on our bike. Whilst there is not a lot to look at we found it great. One of the cottages was open Sunday and they have a herb garden at the back where you can take some herbs and leave a donation. It's so quaint and beautiful. Amazing to see how we used to live compared today's wants and needs. A great lavender garden and very picturesque.

A wonderful walk in the past among beautifully-restored historical houses, some of which are now holiday accommodation.-
