First and foremost, do not swim here - warning signs are in place for a reason. Even while fishing the sweep and rip in knee height water almost had me on my backside more than once and I've been fishing surf beaches since I was 7.

Access is rather difficult down around 220 steps. Plenty of soft sand down the bottom before you hit the firm stuff but well worth the trek.

Fishing is either pure surf or rock based - please take care and never turn your back on the water, especially on the rocks. Poorly defined structure but easy to find with a few casts. Was constrained by time but would have loved to have a line out for tailor - settled for plenty of smaller swallowtail dart instead.

I would imagine this beach would be pretty well protected from howling westerlies in Winter. Plenty of kangaroos on the way back out. You're likely to be either the only person on the beach or one of no more than five.

The walk down to Frenchman's beach is worth it because it is a great fishing spot. I went to the rock pool area on the left as you hit the sand. I was on my own so no worries about getting tangled up with other fishers.

Frenchman's beach is located at Point Lookout just south of North Gorge on the main road into Point Lookout from Dunwich. Access to the beach is via a long staircase which is well signed on Mooloomba Road. The staircase twists and turns down the side of the cliff, seating is provided for those who want to break the journey and take in the views. The beach itself is only about 450 metres long and is an easy walk, the hardest part is the walk back up the 219 stairs to the main road.

Frenchman's Beach got its name as the sign by the road states "In the late 19th century, four men sailed west from the French speaking South Pacific islands. They landed on this beach, which was named after them. Descendants of these four men still live on North Stradbroke Island".

If you are catching public transport (bus) to Point Lookout, disembark at the 'Gorge Walk' stop. Food and drink can be purchased at one of the many stores acrossthe road at Point Lookout.

a short morning walk around Point Lookout and Frenchman's Beach on a stormy summer's day in Queensland.
After a good breakfast, it was a great way to work off the calories, blow the hair around and then shelter inside for coffee in-between rain showers.
Spectacular views!

Frenchman's Beach offers the opportunity to imagine you are on a desert island with wooded cliffs and a sheltered white sand beach worlds away from mainstream society. All this by leaving the cafes and bars of point Lookout and walking down a steep wooden stairway to access a perfect beach where it is rare to see more than two other couples/groups

We came here as the beach was quiet. The beach itself is beautiful and there is plenty of space if you want your own little area of beach. It is beautifully kept with no rubbish

Attracts less people than the beaches nearby so there's a good chance you will have most of it too yourself. Very scenic and relaxed spot.

Just gorgeous natural environment with wild beaches, kangaroos and native beauty. Easy to drive around and visit all the little bays tucked away

All the beaches on Stradbroke were clear of rubbish and a pleasure to stroll particularly in the cool of late afternoon
