Great walk along the headland
Jan 2021 • Family
We walked from the James Cook cairn to the headland car park and back - a bit less than 3km. We enjoyed the coastal views, the different forests and spotting dolphins. A good walk with teens as a little more interesting and you can go off the main pathway in places and down to the beaches and rocks and explore.

At the main car park on the headland there are a few separate lookouts all very accessible on paved pathways and with lookout decks. You can drive straight here and do just these walks.

Absolutely worth the detour
Jul 2020
This end of the road to Bustard Head features 2 lookouts facing different directions and a good sized sealed car park.

Walks down to the sands or rocks are a little steep, easily managable but a bit of effort to return the same way.

Idyllic
Aug 2020
Drive to the top on the sealed road to the lookout for a magnificent view of the bays. Several tracks branch out and you can walk a fair way back towards 1770. Nature at its best.

Stunning ... a gem
Jul 2020
This place is unique on the Queensland coast. Tropical rainforest with palms, paperbark, butterflies overlooking trails down to rocky outcrops and sandy coves. Simply unique and hikers’ paradise. Unlike anywhere else on Queensland coast. Could use some acknowledgment of Gubi gubi people to offset the captain cook trip.

A must do when visiting 1770! Kids loved it and a few people spotted whales. You can’t take a bad picture here

See the sun set and sunrise
Jan 2020 • Couples
The Sealed road takes you to the look out car park where, depending on your desire, you can see the sun rise or set. Take a chair, grab some fish and chips and take in the view or you can take a leisurely walk to the lookout. The paths are a bit a la naturale but easy enough

Beautiful views and a nice spot to see the sunset.
Jan 2019
So nice to reach a lovely area with great lookouts - be safe though, as some areas allow you to get quite close to the edge and paths can be a bit rocky. If in doubt (or you don't have your sunscreen etc) pick a shady spot with a nice view and enjoy the scenery.
