About
1770 Distillery was established as a Boutique Distillery to utilise the locally grown fruits of the area and to provide a unique experience for both locals and tourists. It was John's dream to have a distillery and that is what led both John & Debra to the beautiful seaside Town of 1770 / Agnes Water in Queensland. The dream materialized after being bitten by the distilling bug whilst living in Tasmania. It was there that both John & Debra developed their distilling skill under the ever watchful eye of both Bill & Lyn Lark of the Lark Distillery.

John greeted us with a welcoming smile and provided a wealth of information. We learnt about the distillery process for the fruit liqueurs and had a tasting of each of the four products. John planted the idea- strawberry splash liqueur over ice cream! He wrapped up our visit with some local knowledge on the best fishing spots. 100% recommend popping in to sample and purchase this finely crafted local product.

A interesting little place to visit. The owner and distiller (if there is such a word) is clearly passionate about his craft and why not. A selection of 4 different fruit and spice infused spirits. Each different and each very enjoyable. The story that goes with each flavour makes for a great tasting experience. Makes a change from your everyday winery. Well worth a visit.

The most amazing owners and creators. As we tested the liquor we were informed of how he had created them, what we would expect in the flavours, how to mix them and the process with the fruit to create these beautiful flavours. Support this beautiful family run business, you won’t be disappointed.

The best way to enjoy the hidden power of fresh fruits.
The distillery offers four full flavoured blends. John, the owner, happily guides you through each of his special elixirs as he openly chats about his distilling history which started in the depths of Tasmania a number of decades ago.
It was good to hear how he works his magic to bring out the best of his unique liqueurs.
There is also a small (very tidy) nursery attached to the tasting room that is full of small potted plants that are just waiting to go home with you.
You are destined to take something very special away with you when you leave.

It’s the people you meet in local business who can make or break the experience. John the distiller presents his 1770 Distillery and products in a most engaging way. Whether you fall in love with the liqueurs or not, you will appreciate what goes into boutique distilling.

I went to agnes waters and 1770 for a day trip today with a friend. We were informed of the distillery from the information centre so we thought we would pop in and see what the fuss was all about. Boy oh boy are we glad that we did. It was a fantastic experience. The products were delicious, the broad knowledge, the banter and the passion was very evident. Definitely worth the visit and check it off the bucket list.

A wonderful experience popping into this place. GPS had trouble to find but there is a sign at the gate entrance. The owner was a lovely man who took the time to explain how he makes his liqueurs and the stories he tells had us interested for a pleasant hour! Also a very well l stocked garden nursery which I had my eye on some basil to take on our trip! A very enjoyable experience and the taste testing led us to purchase two very different liqueurs to sip on while on our lap of Australia! Thanks 1770 Distillery!

After reading good reviews, we sought out this distillery during a visit to Agnes Water. A gentleman appeared behind the bar, gave us tastings of each liqueur, described each fruit, alcohol content and taste that we could expect. Did not show us any distilling equipment or display. Did not describe or demonstrate the distilling process to us. The experience was no different to being at my local chain hotel and tasting a new wine.

Coffee shop was shut. There was no indication that the nursery was open to the public, we didn't know until we left that it wasn't a wholesale nursery.

We bought one of the 350ml liqueurs for $45.

Disappointed that our experience was so different to most of the reviews here.

We visited this location while sightseeing and meet the owner John who gave a deatiled and informative talk about the making of his fruit liqueurs while providing tastings of the full range. This was my favourite experience on our stay in Agnus Waters. Finding someone with John's passion and knowledge about distilling in such an isolated, but beautiful location was a complete suprise.

The location also features a nursery and gift shop full of items suitable for keepsakes of gifts that can be stored while travelling by RV or caravan.

Worth a visit.

This place is quite cute. The owner is lovely and knowledgeable about the four liquors he makes on site. He has an adjoining nursery which was also nice to explore. It was very busy the day we went and he worked all of the people with ease. Would recommend a visit and taste test!
