Beyond the question, the cathedral is very beautiful, also the chapel of S. Antonio. I am intrigued by the painting of the nativity to which authorship has not been attributed (think of Caravaggio). Also the painting of St. George and the Dragon is very profound.

Cattedrale di San Lorenzo was built in the 14th century and enlarged and renovated several times in subsequent years. It has some really stunning architectural work, particularly inside. This building itself is a magnificent work of art.

This baroque Roman Catholic cathedral in the middle of town is certainly worth a visit. The ceilings and walls were very impressive with all of the paintings, etc. Really beautiful! Also above the altar in Hebrew letters is the word for God! Fascinating for a Roman Catholic church.

It is a cathedral, like many others you see in Sicily. nice interior, but would not go there just for visiting this place.

Took a detour from my route thru Sicily and stopped in Trapani just to visit Cathedral of San Lorenzo since I heard it one of the oldest here.
Walking in seemed like walking in to any church of this caliber as I experienced the awesomeness of the spirit of the church as well as the Spirit itself.
In close inspection I noticed the walls and fixtures are in desperate need of repair and restoration. There's an offering box at the main entrance center to donate towards fixing it up besides other 'slots' for helping other things/people.
All in all it was worth the detour having experienced the lovely old city itself where the cathedral sits. I posted some photos too!

The Trapani Cathedral, although very pretty in its own right, to my untrained and un-Christian eye, looked like any other Cathedral that can be found in all the countries of Europe. What made THIS cathedral particularly interesting to me, a Jew living in Israel, was the inscription on the wall in gold lettering above the altar: the Jewish word for God written in the actual proper Hebrew letters. I have since discovered that although not common, that there ARE other churches and cathedrals in the world that use the same formula. VERY interesting indeed!

beautiful inside out, from the iron doors to the wonderful ceilings, from the baroque facade to the ambon in marble, one needs to be really careful not to miss the details!
unfortunately it is need of some restoration, especially the ceilings, but it is worth a visit anyway!

This cathedral is right inside the city's gate and car park so accessible even for those not wanting a long walk. Best church of about 5 in town.

We are on a 3 month road trip of South Europe and have seen many churches in Portual, Spain and Sicily. This cathedral is actually quite beautiful and worth going inside to. They did not charge us to enter. It is a beautiful church.
