If you visit Trapani and plan on doing some home cooking, my suggestion is to visit the local fish market and buy some of the local catch, the trip is worth the visit and you can get freshly caught Sea bass, Sea bream, fabulous prawns and squid all priced within 10-15 Euro per kilo. You can choose your fish and they will clean it for you at no extra cost. You can pan fry the fish with salt and pepper and do the prawns in some lemon garlic butter and viola a real amazing sea food dinner. Just have a salad as an accompaniment. Buon Appetito!

A must do when you happen to be in Trapani: this is still the real life of the Trapanese fishermen. You will see fish of all shapes and colours, many still alive in the primitive stalls and even in the direct sun. Prices however look expensive (did we miss something ?) .
Not easy to make contact with the sellers even if you speak a bit of italian. They allow you to look around as long as you do not obstruct the business.

The new Fish Market is located near the docks and is much more convenient for the fishermen than of original one on the other side of the city.

Lot of activity and interesting sights and smells, especially in the morning.

This is a small fish market, but, nonetheless, very interesting. It was busy with local people buying for their dinner. There was a good range of fish, lovely gambas. My favourite was the fishmonger using old style scales to weigh the fish. A good little local fish market, full of local character with nice little harbour to the rear.

Passed through this seafood market while riding on a little motorized train (not listed on TA, but fun and inexpensive). Saw a huge variety of fish, as well as octopus and some other creatures. The sellers were friendly and greeted us with smiles and a wave. A very interesting venue.

This is a wonderful little 'local' market, right in the port area of town (the old historic fish market is in a different location). It is great fun to wander here and listen to the fishermen selling their catch and indeed to see what is on sale at any particular moment. Aside from fish there are several stalls selling good quality fruits and vegetables - we always purchase from here when we are in Trapani.

I love this market.
It is tiny, but enough fresh seafood for lunch or diner.
I bought gamba's, real big ones and sea snails while the snails are still " walking" around in the basket....how fresh do you want?🤗

Just ate the gamba's in our appartement, (Campo appartementi, via Borea 2...few steps from this fishmarket).
Heaven on earth, they were so so good.
I will certainly go back tomorrow for more.

The people there are so nice and gentle.

The fish market was originally in the center of town and moved recently to the harbor. It is not a large market but it is interesting to watch the fish been carried from the boats, the variety of the fresh fish, the vendors trying to outdo each others.

Marvellous way of getting to see fresh fish offloaded from the fishermen boats straight for consumer use. Hear the merchants trying to outshout each other to sell their wares, watch crinkle faced fishermen gut fish and duck the seagulls flying overhead whilst emitting high pitched cries. Best to go early morning to view the variety of the catch and to watch the local housewives haggling over the price. An experience not to be missed.
