It's a really nice place were you can enjoy your family holidays. There are some mini markets and souvenir shop around in the area and many restaurants where you can enjoy traditional dishes. The beach is really nice for the kids.

Unforturnately we had limited time to spend here as we were on a long day's drive from our hotel in Hersonissos, via Agios Nicolaos, Gournia, Lerapetra, Magrigialos, Sitia and back to our hotel; not the best plan to soak in all the sights en route! The beach was sheltered, quiet and seemed safe for families. We enjoyed the brief visit and the lovely views of the bay with its bars, tavernas and hotels.

The name of the village means long beach, and it is indeed quite long. There are some small hotels very close to the sandy beach and about 20 tavernas, small family run restaurants between the port and the rocky end of the beach. If you consume something (even just a coffee) you will be offered with free sunbed and umbrella. Even in the end of September the sea was warm enough to enjoy swimming in. This region of Crete has the highest number of sunny hours per year.

I went here in October and it was very quiet. This is a beautiful beach, but it can get a bit windy this time of year.

We love Makrigialos, we like to start our holidays here, it’s so relaxing the beach is shallow and sheltered, it is also ideal for families. There are bars if you want them. The prices are reasonable throughout.
