Considering we have visited the area for over 24 years we have never been on the boat trip to Koufonosi. There were six of us uin our party and we were a little tentative about the trip due to Covid. The good news was we had to complete health questionaires and it was the only time we all had temperature checks. In August you can imagine it can be unrelenting sun but there is shade available. I would recommed jellies or other water footwear as the sand can be baking hot. If you are able a sun umbrella will be handy. I was pleasantly surprised at the pricing of the food and drink as they have a captive market. The 2 beaches we visited were fantastic with plenty of time to swim and dive. Overall we were pleased with the trip.

We had a lovely trip out on the boat. The views were amazing and the water for swimming Cristal clear.

It is a boat trip so pick a calm day. Take so snacks and drink to save queueing. Pizza looked lovey but sold out very quickly. So we had kebabs which was nice but potatoes cold ! Great salad lovely.

Definitely worth doing.

I have joined the day cruise to Koufonosi island, hoping it would allow me to hike to the amphitheater ruins on the island (as also mentioned on website). This did not happen, but regardless this let down, it is quite decent boat trip.

Likes:
- Island is empty and unspoiled, not like Chrisi
- Boat is nice and enjoyable, I liked to jump from it to the water
- Staff is energetic and friendly

Dislikes:
- Despite the fact, that I purchased ticket online directly from operator, I still needed to wait a queue in ticket office to get the ticket
- Itinerary is not clear, even during trip its presentation is rather vague
- Itinerary included 30 min swim by nice beach, then we embarked 2 hours in rather normal beach (comparable to those I visit daily). I did not see any ruins, rare floral species or learned anything about the island from the guide.
- Rather weak bar and services: e.g. you can borrow an ancient sun umbrela for 4€. I would expect this to be included in price

Altogether, it is very basic trip. I have paid 23€ for and audult via operator’sown website. It is OK for what I have received. If you are asked for more (e.g. by reseller) I would not

Lack of accurate information. They never informed us in time that the ship will not travel due to bad weather conditions. We traveled 120km to visit Koufonisi and they never considered to give us a heads up for the windy weather. One hour before the departure time they informed us for the cancelation of the trip. Consider asking these information before you book any trip

Look up a few boat trips as we were staying in Agios Nikolas, but had already been on the Spinalonga trips so decided to look further away. The main disappointment was the boat which was ok an modern not old school look as is advertised. Communication on the boat was very poor you didn't know what was happening or going on continually had to ask if someone could tell is in English so we could be informed, but that wasn't much help. Secondly the trip is advertised having a few stops......not just one. I was expecting a few snorkel stops along the island but we had just one stop. Just a really disappointing trip when it doesn't add up to what is advertised. Photos are of the older boat which is not being used and looks like it's not been used for a while and the actual boat that takes you.

We have been on many boat trips over the years and enjoyed them all so it made sense to check out the Pirate boat trip from Makrigialos. We were a bit daunted by the reviews in our villa saying "beware absolutely no shade all day" so we asked about this and were immediately told "oh you can rent a parasol if you wish for the day!" What's the price of the trip we asked. 25 euros each we're told. Ok we say, a bit pricey compared to trips we have experienced recently but they were in Yalikavak in Turkey eg outside Europe. Does that include lunch we ask. Oh no, but you can pay extra for that if you wish. At that point we ditched the idea. Tourists we may be but fools we aren't. So we've booked a separate trip from Ieopetra to Chrissi Island which sounds much more like what we wanted and food is included. Will post a separate review when we've been.

Well having taken do many of these trips in other countries, we booked this trip with high hopes. Firstly the coach trip to the port was long, then we got to the boat to be confronted with a full ship of 250 people!! Had we known this trip had been sold to the hilt, or even had a potential for that many people we would never have booked it. Stuck in 40 degree heat with no shade & all crammed in like sardines, lots of people standing was just Health & Safety gone mad! We left the dock, no safety instruction as to what would happen if god forbid anything went wrong just staring blankly at one small speedboat on the back. It would be impossible to house 250 life jackets & although the trip did not advertise the supply of snorkels & masks I’ve never been on a trip where they are not readily available.

So we all sat really uncomfortably next to complete strangers in blistering heat, where they announced we would soon be stopping for our first snorkel stop. As we did chaos ensued as they announced they would also be serving lunch. A small proportion of people including my Husband & Son swam to shore, whilst I joined an 150 person long queue for food. When I finally got to the front, I was shocked that there was no pizza left for my children. Having queued for 30 minutes I was left wondering what my children would eat. Not only was there only stuffed vine leaves left??? But the captain announced we would soon be leaving this stop. In short I never, along with hundreds of others managed to jump off the boat & neither of my children, including my Husband were fed. Massively dissapointed! It was so badly organised to serve lunch at the shortest stop & yet not to actually get any lunch, to say I was angry at this point is no understatement! I raised this with the staff who couldn’t have cared less at which point I told one member of the crew that I was removing twixes & kit Kats. To think we paid 200 euros for a family of 4 makes me incandescent with rage! It’s pretty obvious that people would want to jump off that boat, why serve lunch at this point, then not cater for the amount of people is just disgusting! On top of this we had to pay 4 euros for a parasol on the beach as there is no shade, before enduring a cramped ride back to the port some 2hrs later. The water at koufonissi is beautiful, crystal clear, we just enjoyed this! But the rest was just awful. The boat owners are greedy & didn’t seem to care that a lot of people were openly smoking on the boat. When we complained they shrugged & said “people smoke”. This trip is a disaster waiting to happen. We complained to our rep on our return who refunded 65 euros per family (there was 3 families in our party) & promised a full investigation. Of course we know this will not happen, but do think twice about this trip if you are on Crete.

We were staying in Makry-Gialos so could go any day. We asked which day was quietest that week and went on that day. There were only 2 children on the boat. They played our kind of music at a good level - not very loud! It was a bit choppy on the way out and too windy to stop for a swim at the first stop so we went to the cave first, then a swim stop followed by mooring near the beach. You can either get the tender to the beach or swim across. We took our own umbrella which kept blowing away. They hire umbrellas for 4 euros on the boat. These stayed up so we should have had one of those! It was lovely that this was the only boat to visit the island. We went for a walk along the beach. Very picturesque. We thought the food and drinks on the boat was reasonably priced. Our friends wanted pizza, which was very popular so they had to wait a while, but we went for baguettes and Greek salad, which were very nice. The staff were friendly and had a good sense of humour. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely go again.

If you are looking for very touristic experience - go there. We have experienced big group of greek people (which was the real greek experience because never before i have ever seen to bring on the boat luggage full of food and seen the real greek high voiced lunch :D ) However, the organization poor from the start, the old lady on the entrance from greek group almost killed me while young woman from staff processing our online ticket, the places on the boat are definitely not for 250 people (maximum 100 if you want to sit comfortly) Please notice before: if you have problem with seasickness do not go there - we were lucky to not found huge waves, i cant imagine how it must be in the case of lot of water - it can be pretty dangerous. The food was awful, chicken leg with ONE half on potato, mini salad, and disgusting sandwiches. Prices not fair!
On the final there is really nothing to see, island is empty without any shadow, only stones and sea like everywhere else in Crete. Please save your nerves, money and maybe even health and do not go there.

Highly recommendable for people who love to swim in the Mediterranean and really good for snorkelling too. The food on the boat is okay but a bit expensive. Staff are overall friendly (couldn’t buy a cup of coffee at 1130 am because it was dinner time) but at 4 pm I was allowed to buy my coffee. The water is magnificent at so clear and turquoise and perfect.
