For those loving bizarre sandstone formations, great walks, fantastic views over hills, valleys and the river Elbe, this national park is a definitive must. All walks are clearly marked (color-coded), and there are various centers around the park which explain history and nature. This place is also great for bouldering, should you be into that.

The Elbe Sandstone mountains were recommended by German friends as a place to go for a walking holiday, and their suggestion was well founded. The landscape was truly beautiful, so many amazing rock features. If you have the equipment for rock climbing, there are lots of great climbs. There are also walks involving varying degrees of difficulty. Some walks do... More

What a fascinating landscape on the way from Dresden to Hrensko, Czech Republic! The mountains are called Saxon Switzerland and Bohemian Switzerland in both German and Czech (Sächsische Schweiz and Böhmische Schweiz in German, Saské Švýcarsko and České Švýcarsko in Czech). And in both countries the mountain range has been declared a national park. The sandstone which was carved by... More

We visited Saxon Switzerland in September 2016 and intended to stay a day or two, but only left after six days as the weather turned nasty. Every day we chose a different hike through these magnificent mountains and craggy rock formations. Even though the weather was hot most of the time you are kept cool by the forest canopy and... This area is really worth a visit. The strange, fantastic rock formations are amazing. However, the mountains are high and you'll have to climb lots of stairs to reach the top... you'd better be in good shape 😉

I was hiking couple of days, and every day i choose different route-all of them was full of nature wonders, beautiful views, every path has its secret. You can also follow the routes to reach speciffic points of interest, but not in my case. I just wandered around and enjoyed every moment.

Beautiful hiking area. My daughter and I never imagined Eastern Germany to look this way. Breathtaking views & easy hikes. There is a fee to park your car and we walked to the park, I think you can take a bus to the park. The park is free to enter.

The area is just amazing and well looked after - you can enjoy long walks - go hiking - trails are well signposted - admire the castles in the background - or even visit one - a trip which should always be included if you are in the Dresden area - easy to reach by car - but public transport... We were all excited to walk amidst the strange mountains, after we had parked our car. It’s as if an artist took the time to sculpture all these mountains. Bastei is part of it, but there are way more mountains besides Bastei. In fact it is spread out from Saxony, Germany (2/3 of these mountains are here) and Bohemia in... More
