Beautiful hiking area. My daughter and I never imagined Eastern Germany to look this way. Breathtaking views & easy hikes. There is a fee to park your car and we walked to the park, I think you can take a bus to the park. The park is free to enter.

The area is just amazing and well looked after - you can enjoy long walks - go hiking - trails are well signposted - admire the castles in the background - or even visit one - a trip which should always be included if you are in the Dresden area - easy to reach by car - but public transport... We were all excited to walk amidst the strange mountains, after we had parked our car. It’s as if an artist took the time to sculpture all these mountains. Bastei is part of it, but there are way more mountains besides Bastei. In fact it is spread out from Saxony, Germany (2/3 of these mountains are here) and Bohemia in... More

This place is an absolute feast for the eyes. Its well worth the effort. It's free to visit. Remember to pay the parking fee otherwise there is a hefty fine. The machine accepts only exact change. The place is fantastic & you can easily spend about 2-3 hours over here. This was definitely one of the best tourist sites in... More

A must in the country if you are a local. There is not much natural highlights in Germany, but so far, this one is one of the top ones. There is many formations in the Saxony Switzerland besides the Bastei, so take a couple of days to visit the area.

Great place to hike, well marked trails, safe and with absolutely stunning views of the river Elbe and the mountains. I have been hiking these mountains for many years during my annual trips to Czech Republic. I took a train from Usti nad Labem (originating in Prague) to Bad Shandau then hopped on the local train to Kurort Rhaten. A... More

This is a fabulous area for anyone interested in walking either day walks or the long distance Malerweg Trail. I would suggest buying a map as the options are all there if you chose to plan them.
