As Qinhai opened up to the wider Chinese influence this place was build for the marshal who was in charge of the area. From a historical and architecture perspective its a very interesting place - wooden hand cars side by side with quartz clocks. Built in the style of a Ming / Qing Palace

The residence was built in 1942 for the Muslim general MaBuFang and consists of several buildings and courtyards. Some effort has been made to include household furnishings and items from that period, including military radio sets, jeeps and motorbikes, but not much directly related to his life. Some small rooms have also been dedicated to the culture of various ethnic tribal people and there is the obligatory souvenir shop.

This destination will probably not be more than a passing interest to anyone except for the history buff. It is not expensive, however, and it gives a glimpse of how the powerful lived and the architecture and décor of that period. Signage in English is lacking though and the guide provided spoke in Chinese.

I enjoyed the Mabufang residence, very beautiful building. But no guide. I manage to get local friend help explain the entire building, huge areas, a lot of history and hidden story. Very nice place to visit during summer.

I went there 2 weeks ago and was told that the place is no longer open to visitors. You can still take photos of the exterior of the building.

We thought this sounded interesting and that we might learn about who lived here but there wasn't much English translations. We didn't know the history of the place before we went and thought we might learn it there but there wasn't enough information in English for that. It was fine for a walk around and probably more interesting for people who can read Chinese.

It is a large Jade covered home of a War Lord. it is interesting just to see how the powerful lived. My Son enjoyed exploring and looking for secret passages.
