    Love their wine
Traveling and stopped in for what I think are some of the best wines at very reasonable prices. Picked up six bottles and with a military discount only paid $55.80. I bought Sangria red & white, Scuppernong blush, black river red, Hatteras red and blackberry. Wine tasting available and clean restrooms. You can order food and they have a nice outdoor dining area. Other gifts available and while there is plenty of parking at busier times parking could be a little challenging. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Worth a visit if in the area. We drove an hour and a half for our visit.
Thank you so much for visiting with us! We appreciate you taking time to leave a kind review on your experience here. We are happy to hear you found some favorites to take home and hope to welcome you back again soon!

    fun, fabulous and live music
Wine tasting was excellent. Enjoyed the fun atmosphere. Nice way to spend a later afternoon. Dip was delightful, I like the long stone firepits that lined the lower outside seating area.

As you’re driving to the winery, you pass the huge processing plant. Impressive! The show room/ tasting rooms are large and filled with wine to purchase, and mementos galore! My husband and I have been to many wineries, but this one is different. If you want to do a tasting, you must submit your name, pay $12 per person, and wait to be called at a specific time. (We had ordered wine from Duplin’s before touring it. I had done some research, and had a list of the wine we were interested in tasting.) Upon being seated, you discover that the 10 wines you paid $12 per person for, is the winery’s choice….not yours. Also, you used to receive the glass, included in your fee, but not anymore as there seems to be a glass shortage….no discount offered although you used to be able to buy a wine glass for $4.99. Can’t do that either! After the presentation, you may take your ticket stub to the bar for a glass of wine - however, you can only get one of the “tastings”, not something you really wanted to try but wasn’t offered in the proceedings. It was an experience - but it definitely is a money-making outfit, offering their choices instead of yours.

We thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We had to change our wine tasting experience at the beginning of September and we were no longer able to distribute souvenir wine glasses due to a glass shortage. We hope to be able to resume the distribution of souvenir wine glasses in the future. We apologize for the miscommunication on these recently updated policies. The preselected wine list for the tasting changes every couple of months in order to provide a new experience each time you visit! We hope to welcome you back to the winery again soon.

My husband and I recently became Heritage Club members. We're currently stationed at Ft. Bragg and will be moving to a new duty station soon. We thought it would be nice to become members and get a piece of North Carolina shipped to us a few times each year. We've previously visited both the Rose Hill and N. Myrtle Beach locations and decided to visit Rose Hill again, for the first time after becoming members because one of the benefits listed is the complimentary tasting and glass of wine. To be honest, it was a little disappointing. After driving nearly an hour and a half, we walked in to reserve the tasting and the lady asked if we were members. She then explained that we then had two options for the tasting. The free to us option was the basic tasting with the free glass of wine. We could upgrade which would then give us a tasting with the pineapple habanero dip and a 2nd glass of wine. I think the cost to upgrade was $18 total. We declined because we weren't interested in the 2nd glass of wine but it would have been nice to have the dip included. As it was, we sat at the tasting while everyone else had dip and we had plates of dry crackers. As Heritage Club members, I feel the dip should be included in the tasting. It seemed a little money-hungry for it not to be.
The tasting itself was fine except for two groups there that didn't like most of the wines and dumped them. Listening to them complain about the sweetness really put a damper on the mood.
The Bistro was nice but no one asked if we were members, and we forgot to mention it until we were halfway home. So we missed out on that discount.
All in all, we were a little disappointed. We had intended to purchase some wine before we left, but we decided to skip it, and we'll probably cancel our membership. They choose the wines that are shipped (which we totally knew ahead of time) but, unfortunately, there is no option to request a drier or sweeter option. And Duplin's sweet wines are REALLY sweet. Our first Heritage Club shipment was shipped to us a few weeks ago and, in all honesty, only one was a wine we would actually have purchased on our own.
So, we tried it but there's definitely nothing special about the experience as a Heritage Club member.

We first want to thank you for being a part of our Heritage Wine Club and visiting our locations. There are several perks to being a club member with some of those being a free glass of wine during your visit and a free wine tasting. The free tasting is our “basic” tasting and is for wine samples only. Our “deluxe” tasting gives you the opportunity to upgrade for $8.00 and includes the Muscadine Pineapple Habanero Cheese Dip and Homemade Crackers and an additional glass of wine following the tasting. This tasting lines up to the tasting that is offered to the general public! Being that you are a club member, we offer you a discount to upgrade to that tasting. The main purpose for the quarterly shipment is to offer our Heritage Club members the chance to try a variety of our wines. We often focus these shipments around new and exclusive releases that allow the club members to be the first or only ones to receive most of these wines. We regret that you do not prefer our sweeter style wines. We are a family-owned business growing Muscadine grapes for over 45 years. Native to the south, Muscadines are ideal for sweeter-style wines. We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback and we will pass this along to the respective departments. If you would like to discuss your experience further, we would be more than happy to contact you directly. You may send us your contact information at marketing@duplinwinery.com. Again, thank you for spending your time with us.

We had the best time with this young lady! She was informative and pleasant to have as our guide. A must visit at Myrtle Beach location. Bottling our own wine and learning the history was the best. Thank you for a great visit!!

I am surprised to see the high rating on this winery after our experience. In reading the lower reviews, we realize we aren’t the only ones with a poor experience and there is definitely a pattern of negative behavior at this winery. Please read on…On a recent trip from Ohio to North Carolina, we decided to drive out of our way to visit the Duplin winery, as we had enjoyed a few of their wines while living in South Carolina. Being military, we have lived in the south a few times and have always enjoyed Southern hospitality. Unfortunately, this experience was vastly different from what we had come to expect.

We had been driving for almost 9 hours and called ahead twice to make sure they would be open and offering tastings. After rushing to arrive before they closed and driving out of our way during a 12 hour trip we arrived at 4:15pm (they closed at 5). We walked in and proceeded toward the long, EMPTY bar where Lynn finally greeted us. We stood at the bar for a minute before she came over and asked if she could help us. We inquired about a tasting and were told they were no longer offering tastings for the day (despite there being 45 minutes left before they closed). She did say she could offer us three tastings for free.

We looked over the list and my husband chose one. She poured him a taste and he tried it and then passed it to me to try. I then proceeded to choose two other wines. She poured me the taste, I sipped and let my husband sip. During this time we clearly stated that we were going to purchase at least one case and just needed to decide which wines we wanted since we were only familiar with a few. She removed the glasses and walked away without saying anything and left us standing there wondering what was happening. She did not even ask us about what we may want to purchase. We stood there for a few minutes feeling ignored before we were able to get her attention and ask her why she removed the glasses, since he had only requested one and I had only requested two tastings. She said we had each tried three since we chose to share our tastings with each other. We were shocked to say the least. In the 50+ wineries we have visited around the world, not only have we been allowed to share our tastings (when they are limited), we were encouraged so that we could sample more varieties. It was not as if she had poured larger than normal tastings and she had not said anything to us upon watching us share the first tasting.

When we asked about the “policy” she said she would allow us another tasting but she acted as if she was doing us this HUGE favor, despite the fact that we had already announced our intention to purchase at least a case of wine. My husband again asked her to explain why we weren’t allowed to share the tastings since they were not larger than normal and she kept cutting him off with “We’ve moved on”. As we were deciding what we wanted to try next, another woman came over and offered to help us since Lynn had walked to the end of the bar and was ignoring us again. Even another employee noticed that Lynn was treating us poorly and ignoring us at this point. She asked Lynn how many we had had and Lynn’s reply was “well if you ask him, he will say 1 ½”. At this point, we were shocked and furious at how rude we were being treated.

We immediately decided we were done with this winery and told them that we had never been treated so rudely. We not only walked out without purchasing anything, we have vowed to not purchase their products again. In addition, we called back multiple times over the next few days to speak with the manager and she (Karen) never returned out calls. There are plenty of other wineries (over 8000 in the US and over 100 in NC) to visit where we will be appreciated as customers.

Given the fact that North Carolina has 119 other wineries, many of which specialize in Muscandine and Scuppernong varieties, I won't be back to Duplin, nor will I purchase anymore of their products.

My family and I planned to attend their grape stomp. The information provided online indicated that "[t]his event has beach music, grape stomping, and, of course, wine tastings. Special vineyard tours will be given during the afternoon as well as exclusive wine tastings which include a special cheese tray. Grab a friend or two and participate in the great grape stomp off competition. The Bistro Restaurant will be open on a first come first serve basis." The event was scheduled to last from 5:00 - 9:00 PM, but no schedule of events was provided. My family and I arrived at 6:30, paid our $15.00 per person admission, but were not advised that there would be no additional vineyard tours and that there were no SCHEDULED wine tastings remaining. We inquired at the bar about a regular tasting versus an "exclusive tasting" but were told those ended at 5:00 PM with regular business hours. I've never been to a winery where you're not permitted to sample wines you may be interested in purchasing, even for a fee--it generally doesn't make good business sense. As such, I returned to the ticketing area to ask about what the schedule of event was for the rest of the evening, and I was told, "Oh, well, when you arrive late..." Late?! I arrived with two and a half hours of a four hour event remaining! Whatever the case, the lady advised that we could "sit and listen to music" and "buy a t-shirt." Fifteen dollars to listen to music at a winery and be able to spend MORE money on a t-shirt? I wondered if the woman was even listening to herself speak.

Meanwhile, another member of my party spoke to the hostess for the exclusive wine tasting, which was nothing more than pita chips heaped up on a plate with disposable cups of cheese dip and about 8-10 wines for tasting, with a "keepsake" glass from an event that took place about 4 months ago. At any rate, there was an entirely unfilled table, so we were permitted to pay an additional $5.00 to sample Duplin's wines during one of their "exclusive tastings." The tasting did not feature one of Duplin's wines that I was most interested in tasting, so I returned to the bar. I waited for about 5 minutes to place my order. While I waited, a bartended passed me several times and appeared to be doing little more than shuffling bottles around. Finally, I called out to her, and she indicated she'd return to take my order in just a moment, but she never did. I saw another group of people waiting to order and moved over and stood behind them. I was finally able to place my order, though while I was waiting, I saw one of the staff allow another guest to do a wine tasting at the bar, a service that was supposed to have ended with regular business hours.

In summary, I was unimpressed with Duplin Winery. You could come here to witness how the rural South defines exclusivity and class, eat at their would-be gourmet bistro, "slam down" their Muscadine wine (yes, during the wine tasting we were advised to "slam it down" rather than "sip and swirl), buy their homemade fudge, and shop for hackneyed Southern-themed gifts in their boutique. Or, you could visit one of the 119 other North Carolina wineries, four of which I can personally say know true meaning of Southern Hospitality and where all are welcome.

We arrived early to have lunch at the adjacent Bistro. After the meal we browsed the gift shop and then planned to taste and buy some wine. We were stunned to learn that the tasting had to be SCHEDULED and we would have to be worked into the on next tour. Due to circumstances in our party, we were not planning on going on the tour and just wanted to sample some of the wines. Although there were several spaces at the bar available, we were informed we would have to sign in and wait for over a half hour because the tours were running late.

Every place has its own process and we respect that. In our experience, you have the option to just step up to the bar and taste the wines you want to try. No hassle, no herding. However, we had no way of knowing this was such a structured environment. We chose not to have to be "worked in" and forced to be part of an unwanted group, so we left without tasting a drop. We drove over an hour to visit and won't be going back.

Hello! Thank you so much for coming into Duplin Winery. We are so sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience. We always want to make our guests feel welcome and give them the best experience possible. Typically we try to do our tastings on a schedule, so we can get as many people in a tasting as possible. However, we apologize about the inconvenience and wish this would of been handled differently. Please let us know if you decide to come back or come to our North Myrtle Beach location. We'd like to give you and your party complimentary tastings. Again, we apologize about your experience.
