The traveler really misses something if he doesn't visit this huge mansion, dream residence for many, creation of a super wealthy and sophisticated family. More "Mansion" than "Garden", Heyuan has a unique style that only in "film noirs" you can find. Architecture and exhibits work perfectly to create nostalgic feelings for a past era. Some of its top "hot spots" include The Theatrical Kiosk in the middle of the artificial lake, the "Full Moon" Pool (the full moon is being reflected on its waters day or night due to a clever design trick), the Young Lady's Rooms (when you stand at the Café -at the time of my visit was not in operation- you might listen to some piano music as if the Young Lady was still there, practicing with her piano, the long and unified balconies and other. Entrance fee is 30RMB for the winter season. To be noted that there are many facilities available (Café, Shops, very clean toilets etc).

A beautiful and huge home (of a wealthy family) that has become the property of the people. Have visited in spring and winter. Winter is tough because of the lack of any heating in the building areas. The worst thing regardless of the season is the # of people which makes it hard to enjoy the place and take pictures.

Good to spend a couple of hours in the garden and explore all the paths & rooms. Highly recommended to everyone who is interested in Chinese gardens or mansions.

This was the most luxury and exciting tea experience I had with friends. We visited Yangzhou in April, the most beautiful time of the year. We brought tea and set up a little tea ceremony in the garden. It was an unforgettable experience!

The classic style of Chinese garden is definitely worth to visit. It is well preserved. I specially like the corridor of the second floor. This kind of design is seldom found in other Chinese gardens such as in Hangzhou or Suzhou. Also, since not so many tourist come here, I got an peaceful relaxing experience to enjoy the beauty of classic Chinese garden.

Said to be one of the four best classical gardens in China, it os well worth spending a couple of hours. It is very busy so be prepared for crowds.
Be sure not to miss the other gardens in Yangzhou: Slender West Lake (a huge park) and the Li Family mansions (with a fantastic restaurant) and the Ge garden, which is really stunning.

We hired a tour guide when we went through the gate after we saw how big the place was. . .and she was able to make our visit more meaningful. Home of a former government official, the official was exposed to a bit of western influence, and that can be seen in some of the rooms. Notice the garden floor, where the rocks are arranged like waves of the ocean and another part where you see gulls, in the reversed position, all the reflect the officer's ties to the sea. The lake was reportedly used for the acoustics and the audience would then stand on the 2nd floor to enjoy the show. According to the guide, this is also the first split corridor 2nd floor home in Yangzhou, as that was not common at that time. It's quite an interesting place to visit.

You might think that each gardens is the same but no. Each garden has its characteristic, also Heyuan. This garden is fusion of western and china. Chinese garden with influence western decoration.
