Walk by the old grey statues of people from the city's past and enter the very modern museum and you'll see history stretching from the prehistoric to the modern age. There is a genuine wooly mammoth tusk from thousands of years ago, there are old weapons such as swords and bows from the wars of China's long past and even clothing that has still survived today. You'll also find the story of Marco Polo since he lived in Yangzhou for years during his travels and was even the mayor of the city for a while; you'll see a large map of his journey starting from Venice to China and then back again. You'll also see the story of the Yangzhou massacre which happened hundreds of years ago and one of the heroes of the city, Shi ke fa whose tomb can elsewhere in the city. Certain areas are designed to look like traditional China, with its buildings made of bamboo trees and red lanterns hanging up. In another section you'll even see items and artefacts showing different parts of world history, even some British history. Of course there is a gift shop at the end and the museum is not too far from the city's opera house if you'd like a visit; so this is a nice and interesting place to visit if you've got a day of free time.

Museum of Yangzhou is so attractive and that's a lot of exhibit items, spend nearly 4 hours for a complete trip in the muzeum. Give me so much of inspiration and understanding of Yangzhou and China history.

This is a relatively new museum and it gives a very good background to the history and development of the region including battles between dynasties pre-republic.
There is also a fascinating print museum with artisan displays. A good rainy afternoon destination.

The museum exhibits some familiar pieces (you will notice that if you visited a lot of museums in Jiangsu province). It has also its particularity especially when it comes to the history of the city. The place is not huge but it's quite.

dont miss the Meiping Vase! At present, only three of such Meiping Vases are found to be handed down from the ancient times. The other two are kept in Summer Palace in Beijing and Guimet museum in Paris. And this one is the biggest and the most beautiful in features.

Well designed and layout. Find a calligrapher on 2nd floor, he made great pieces at reasonable price, you will love it!
