The trip on the lake is a nice activity for elders 60+ 70+ of age, but not for younger people. Apart from water and the same green rocks that can be better viewed in Zhangjiajie National Forest there is nothing to see.
HOWEVER, at just 50 m from the ticketing boot there is a magnificant waterfall, which made the trip worth the effort.

I just came back from Baofeng lake and I wish we spent the time somewhere else.
I am not saying that the scenery is not good. It's just not as good as my expectation. Personally, I think Ha Long Bay is more beautiful for a similar type of scenery.
The Lake ride is short with an even shorter songs. Granted the songs were performed live and the singers have beautiful voices.
For me, the highlight of the lake was the salamander fish. I personally have never seen amphibious fish lake that.
I would not recommend this if you're short in time.

Boat ride for 150 RMB is overpriced. It is a 20 minutes ride. It is a small lake with nice scenery. I would not suggest this attraction. If you were with a tour group, I would not sign up for this one or the show for 240 RMB. The train ride up the mountain was recommended to save time walkin gup there.

The air and water is fresh. The scenes are normal. People are not so friendly. The price is not worth this place.

We arrived having been told we could go for an hour long boat ride on the lake. For the price of around £15, we got a 20 minute boat ride, with the tour entirely in Chinese.
It was a beautiful lake, and a beautiful boat. From the reactions of the Chinese tourists I assume the host was doing a great job too (although harder to enjoy if you don't speak the language!). However, the price was extortionate for what was a very short trip.
To be clear, there was no way to sit by the lake or just enjoy it from the boat 'station'. When we asked if there was anything else to look at we were told we could walk back along the road.
I'm sad to say this all felt like a bit of a scam. Having come back to the 'entrance', i.e. just behind where you can buy the tickets, and the location you'd board the bus at, you can see a map with a walking trail around the lake. This is free of charge and, from what I could tell, a much nicer option!
I wouldn't particularly recommend the boat ride if the weather is good enough for the walk, but if you're short on time it is an expensive but easy option

Entrance price is 96 RMB per person (adult), which includes a boat journey but doesn’t include a bus ride to and from the boats.
So you’d rather buy a bus ticket for 25 RMB extra, than would be walking around 30 minutes from the entrance to the lake through steep and narrow pathways.
Concerning the boat journey itself: it will take no more than 20 minutes, you’ll see and will listen to traditional Chinese singers on the way (two times in total).
121 RMB is not that price I would ever reckon to pay for such a short and uncertain journey.

I envision one day when I am old and grey,
And my knees and legs have gone astray,
I will sit in a boat and see the sights,
As I will no longer be able to scale the heights.
This is how seniors and those less able must travel and take in the sights. A short bus ride up and over to the head of the lake, a short walk to the pier, and sit in a slow moving boat as a guide describes the history and formations surrounding said lake. The tour guide only spoke in Chinese (which is to be expected as we are in China). Unfortunately, it meant I did not get to enjoy anything of what she said. There is a portion of the tour where a guy comes out of a cabin and sings a few bars across the lake. A little later on, during the return journey and now on the opposite side a young lady comes out of a different cabin and sings a few bars in response. Other than that, a fairly serene and gentle way to spend an hour; with the karst mountains above, the cold water below... and a boat full of seniors around me.
I am not a senior and hence will wait a few more decades before I do this tour again.

there is an air of melancholia when traversing the lake on boat, further dramatised by lone female & male minstrels in river boat houses, serenading in haunting melodies as passenger boat passes by; the rock formations & singular islands remnants of major geological movements millions of years ago simply make this a must-go place!

the only way to visit this place is to take their boat ride, the boat ride itself is quite short so the price is bit high given the time we can spent there.
and the design of the boat is a miss too, there's a "roof top" so that means if you sit at the back, it's hard to see the beautiful scenery.
i wish they have a pathway to let people have a bit of walk there.

First I want to give my compliments to Chris and Kelly who helped a lot to make our tour as more successful event.
With help of these two very nice people , we made our dream trip as a real one.
Thank you Kelly , Thank you Chris
The lake was near by our hotel , just 10 minutes walking distance to the tickets office (General Ticket 96 RMb and Discount Ticket 48 RMB), we bought the tickets and skip the bus line (Bus Ticket was 20 RMB) , we used to climb the mountain to reach the lake.
It was an interesting journey , less people do climb up by walk , so I recommend you to climb up as long as if you can, lot of nature lovers climb up by walk.
Or else you can take the bus if it's difficult to walk.
Oh my god , there was a lake , a big one with lot of mountains, it has awesome view. I really enjoying to seeing this lake .
As they said deep is 72 meters and move out one feet of water takes 1 week of time.
We got in to the boat and started our journey ( free ride - already in par with the entrance ticket ). There were some entertainment events organised by the management of the lake.
The girl and boy were wearing traditional Chinese dress and singing something(we cannot understand - it's Chinese 😀)
After we finished our boat journey we started to descending the mountain , there was an another path to descend.
It was an amazing experience for us.
Bye Bye Baofeng Lake , I strongly recommend you to visit this lake and have a boat ride.
And Thanks Kelly and Chris for your excellent support.

I read in one of the reviews that there is a walk around the lake that doesn't cost anything. Taking a right from the main entrance. Has anyone else done this walk? Any info on this? Thanks!

When you arrive, go past where you buy the tickets to where you get on a bus - there's a wooden sign with a map there which will show you where you can go. Didn't do it myself but the route is on there!

yes, you can take a walk to the boat instead of taking the bus, when you get inside the entrance, you will see a road for the shuttel bus, the walk way is on the rightside of the road. left is for bus, right is for walking tourists, have fence in the middle, then in the middle you have to aross the road keep climb to the mountain, then down to the lake.

We went there early mornings and it really rained all night, they just opened the boom gate - no water, no water noise or so very little did come down from that waterfall, but all over sudden like it was just switched on, here was the waterfall and the near empty creek bed also had all over sudden water in it. That all this water comes through a hole in the mountain to create a waterfall so suddenly and it comes naturally is a bit of a myth - or is it ?? We also noticed there is a gravel filter on the lakes water exit before the water enters the slightly hidden opening or cave to appear on the other side as the waterfall. It is nice, we liked it, very idyllic even mystic, worth the walk to go up there and looking around - even with the rain we had - but occurring natural ??? .......as nature has created ?? ....we id not buy that!

Dear Friends
We went up to Baofeng Lake and took a boat ride around the lake. It is a rare lake on the plane, surrounded by green mountains, with green water, and splendid lake scenes and landscapes. When we came down from Baofeng Lake, we went to Baofeng Flying Waterfall. The water comes through a hole in the mountain, cascading down the slope. The scenery created is beautiful.
