Artefacts excavated from the Ma Wang Dui tomb are housed here, including the legendary cadaver of Madam Xin Zhui, preserved from the West Han period (almost 2000 years ago). There are also multiple specimens of fine lacquer ware, some as good as new, and ephemeral...More

The museum is free and it is very informative. We spent several hours looking at the exhibits and learned quite a bit about Chinese history. I only focussed on the exhibits that had English explanations. Not many people visited the museum when we were there....More

A great way to learn about the history and evolution of the Hunan Province. Plan to spend at least two hours or more going through the museum. If you are a foreigner, you will need your passport.

When in Changsha, a visit to the Museum is essential. One of the most comprehensive museums we have visited. Well set out and displayed. But.. Take your PASSPORT, you must have your I.D. !

Here with a tour group and only manage tk spend 1.5 hours. There are only 2 main things to see: 1) a very light piece of fabric clothe that weighs about 50g and 2) a 2000-year-old corpse which is well preserved. Best route to travel...More

The main attraction is the display of the mummy of the Lady of Dai. Well worth the queue in the blazing hot sun (I went in May). Tips: go early. The queues can get quite long especially over the weekends. Bring your passport. Although entry...More

A fascinating collection, which centers on the 2100 year old tomb remains excavated nearby in the 1970s, and which is well worth the visit. The history of Changsha, Hunan, and central China is well-represented. The materials on the Chu are also of interest. A rare,...More

Hi, we visited the museum in November 2018. It is not a very busy museum and basically across the street from the Intercontinental in Changsha.
