One of the few places where old, Chinese style buildings still remain. Far nicer now that the buildings have been renovated and traffic has been banned (except for motor bikes which can still get you!). It runs north from downtown toward the lake complex (LongTing, Millennium Park, etc.) so its pleasant enough to stroll down.

The structures on this street have an "ancient" look to it. However, there's nothing really to see inside, so I'd ask your taxi driver to just drive through the street. (Which only takes less than a minute) The street still looks pretty cool, so I'd take some artsy pics there to brag to your friends about.

I think this is also called 'book seller" street.
Wait and go at night. Lots to see, buy and eat. Hundreds of sellers from 6 till 11. So make sure you go hungry. Beware of crowds and beggars. Foreigners be sure to be nice to locals requesting your photos...

Although the street has been somewhat designed to have an ancient "look", there is nothing ancient here. Shops after shop of the same souvenirs, cold drinks, and snacks. Perhaps 10 years ago the street at least had a bit of local flavour...but these days I wouldn't spend any time here. Ask your cab driver to drive through and you'll see no need to stop.

Can be crowded but a great way to stroll through history prior to the wonderful show on the lake. Food and trinkets available. This was my second visit in two years.

This is the royal avenue where the emperor traveled in ancient times. Today, there are embrodery shops, Chinese paintings and crafts shops. If time available, walk this avenue and window shop.

A beautiful and well preserved ancient street. An interesting place to stroll around. Plenty of shops and food stalls along the street.

Quite a nice little slice of traditional architecture. Renamed an 'art district' for the city, and has many smaller stores selling crafts and has a nice feel about it. It would have been nicer if the road was closed to traffic, and there wasn't a huge shopping mall built in the background. As it is China, this is the norm for building - new and old in the same shot.
