This little city is very different. It has on the surface a combination of different religions more so than other cities in china. It has Buddhism, Taoism, kong zi also. Its only 1 level high as all the dynasties before it have been flooded and its hasn't been rebuilt on like other cities. I think this element makes it amazing to go and see. You can take a rickshaw around town for 50-100rmb for a few hours and get the driver to take you to some nice local restaurants. Great for a few days.

The city wall (albeit a complete rebuild) is still standing and well worth seeing from one of the ornate gates. You can climb and walk the wall, but once you're on it, it's just a wall. Probably best simply to admire from ground level. The central (albeit very new) Drum Tower is very spectacular at night.

The city wall is OK and you can climb up on it in certain places. West Gate for example has a small food museum (all in Chinese) housed in the gate house at the top and an open excavation of the previous gates that have stood there.
The actual gate and wall section are heavily reconstructed and, even though it is quite nice, it is far too sanitized and new feeling. For 10 RMB, it's worth a look, but don't get too excited before you visit.

After seing so many walls, Kaifeng city walls are not special, at all. It is just a landmark, but definitely not worth a detour there, on my humble opinion.

There's a pretty good chance that you'll drive through the city wall while touring through Kaifeng on a taxi, but there's no need to really stop and get off.

This is a lovely gate/wall and is particularly beautiful at night when it is lighted. The gate has a drive through where cars drive. The best photos are those taken from the middle of the road but I wouldn't advise doing this as it can be really dangerous. The architecture is very similar to the Xian City Wall but not as spectacular.

The sections of the city wall that you see in Kaifeng are reconstructions. If you want to see original sections of the wall, there are artifacts of the various eras of the wall in a very small archaeological cross section of the wall. This looks more like a pit in the ground with some bricks thrown in. Even for a history buff like me, it was not remotely interesting. This definitely is not a must do tourist stop.

One of the most disappointing cities you can visit in China, Kaifeng is surrounded by a wall that offers direct views onto badly reconstructed sections of town, abandoned buildings, or building that are far beyond repair though people still live in them, and, about 100 meters from the west gate, next to a food market, a river/canal that is so filthy that you would not dare put one finger in it. The wall isn't bad in itself but, unless you close your eyes, you will have to see all those eyesores. So why climb on the wall?

Its more beautiful at night. Plenty of place to snack around both at day and night. Also near a market with many interesting stalls.

A really nicely restored wall, similar in many respects to what there is at Xi'an but not so commercialized. It is lovely to walk around it or walk on it, and quite easy to find.
