Have been here twice so far with my boyfriend. We did the Sherlock room first with puzzle master Faye and didn't escape; then we tried The Experiment with puzzle master John and managed to escape with a couple minutes to spare. Both rooms are well designed with challenging puzzles, and we had to ask for a hint a few times in both.

There were a few downsides:
-Room 2580 is located in an older building that used to be a house, and the rooms are thin and floors squeaky. The thin walls mean that you can hear people in the other rooms, and that combined with squeaky floors can make it hard to hear the hints.
-To ask for a hint, you have to look at the camera, request the hint, and wave until you get the puzzle master's attention. This is okay when there's more than one puzzle master working, or only one or two rooms with groups in them; however, when there's only one master and multiple groups, it can take several seconds to get the puzzle master's attention, and every second counts. It would be helpful if the business always had at least two puzzle masters working at once.

Overall it was a great experience and we plan to come back for more!

I've been twice now and had a wonderful experience both times. As promised, it was challenging. It wasn't scary. And the time flew by! The first time, I went with folks who had done escape rooms before, and we only needed hints twice. The second time, I was with a group who'd never done escape rooms, and we needed quite a bit more help. :-) But, the staff was very helpful (though sometimes, it was hard to hear their hints via the camera/speaker in the room) and encouraging! Can't wait to go back!

This was my first time doing an escape room, and we escaped. My only complaint is that the intercom, or how they give you hints, is not very clear. It is a fairly small place with wonderful people working there.

We stopped here on our way out of town because we love escape rooms and wanted to try one in Raleigh. We preferred to try another business but this one fit into our schedule. There is free 2 hour parking behind the building. It is in a older looking house in Raleigh. We (2 of us) did The Experiment room and did not get out. It had a 30% success rate. The lowest we have tried before. The game master was very friendly and helpful. We have been to several escape rooms in the past 2 years and this place was one of our least favorite rooms ever. We though the room was kind of bare bones. Some of the items we had to use did not measure accurately which already makes the room less fun. There was nothing special or cool about this room. No sound effects, etc. When we got a clue it was written on a piece of paper and slipped under the door after a knock occurred.

We aren't sure if we picked the wrong room to do at this place or if it just wasn't our preference of an escape room because there were no special effects and it was not immersive.

We won't be going back here but we will try another escape room in Raleigh, if we have time when we are in Raleigh again.

We have done almost 30 escapes rooms, so we usually are looking for a challenge. We did the Sherlock room because it had the lowest escape rate. It was a good room and had at least one puzzle style that we had not seen before. Most of the puzzles were the same or similar to others that we have seen in other escape rooms.
The staff was nice, and the overall experience was good, but it lacked the wow factor for our group.

We were a group of four. I am 55 and I was with 3 twenty-somethings. We did the Dark Room. This was my 24th escape room. Last time I was in Raleigh I did The Experiment. Like The Experiment, Dark Room had some unusual puzzles (much appreciated by those like me who wish to try something new). The theming was crisp, just enough spooky and difficult enough to make it interesting. One trend in escape rooms is more and more red herrings, which do not add to the challenge. I was pleased to see that the owner isn't following the trend. There were puzzles requiring teamwork and the "kick yourself" moment with another puzzle. Again, it's hard to find such delights when you've done multiple rooms. Congratulations to 5280 for working hard to keep it fresh.

The space was large enough for our group of four and there were several clever surprises. I am sad that I only have "Sherlock" left at 5280 because I would return to this place every time I'm in Raleigh. The owner is engaging and committed. The rooms are well-themed and smart. I wish everyone would try 5280 and skip the chains. If you want to become addicted to escape rooms, The Dark Room is the place to start. I loved it.

Our family loves escape rooms and has done them in numerous cities. On a recent visit to Raleigh, we greatly enjoyed "The Dark Room," especially the idea that it is based upon a true story. Andrew, the owner, was a terrific host, and we will definitely return to Room 5280 on a future trip to Raleigh.

This was our first time doing an escape room and it was lots of fun! Staff are very friendly and helpful when needed, otherwise, you are left to your own whits to escape. It wasn’t easy, but it was a lot of fun.
