One of the leading art museums in the American South, the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) recently completed a major, three-year expansion that places it in the front ranks of museums nationwide. The NCMA offers a permanent collection spanning more than 5,000 years, a variety of celebrated exhibitions and public programs, an amphitheater for outdoor performances, and the nation’s largest museum park—164 acres of trails and parkland containing major works of art.

Have visited museum on several occasions. Have seen beautiful paintings. The garden is lovely. The cafes are great as is the gift shop. Wish they would have exhibitions of famous paintings more frequently,

So we didn't eat at the restaurant or actually go into the museum. Just went to a concert. Very nice grounds good place to sit. There is reserved seating on wooden benches, open seating in the grass and on cement steps. Good acoustics. Catering with service by the restaurant so they had very good wines for sale by the bottle... More

I have always enjoyed coming to NCMA and feel lucky to live only 20 minutes away. The museum exceeded my expectations yesterday with a Pop-up art activity at the pavilion in the museum park. They provided the kids with kits containing clay, wire and metal trinkets to make a tree. They had a blast and were very proud of the... More

Friday evenings there is usually a free concert by local musicians which can be anything from flamingo guitar music to jazz. There is also a nice restaurant there and various family events like outdoor movies and craft activities for kids. I do believe it has the most outdoor walking trails out of any other art museum.

What a wonderful exhibit of flowers and art together. The fresh flower displays were breathtaking, it is a must see and bring your camera next. Origami instructor was there to show the children how to paper fold which was very intriguing to watch. Looking forward to 2016.

We really enjoy visiting the museum. It has been a great experience to bring the kids up w/ some amount of culture in our backyard. The new section has added a more modern flare to the place - it is very bright and open and there are numerous additional statues which weren't a part of the layout previously.

The NC Museum of Art has permanent exhibits that in themselves are worth the trip to Raleigh to view and enjoy. However, this museum has had special exhibits that are world class. I had opportunities to see original Monet oil paintings as well as Rodin statues. In addition to these pieces of art was the special showing of the Normal... More
