From the upper parking lot, you can quickly access great views. We also did the loop directly around pilot mountain, which was my favorite. The ledges trail we did last and it was fairly strenuous on the way back up! All worth it though 😊...More

We loved this park for the views and hiking. Plenty of parking, even during the crowded Saturday. There are bathrooms, places to sit and look out points everywhere. The hiking trails are clean, wide enough and the mountain is accessible on a short and easy...More

You can see this mountain from miles away. You can park in a lower parkplatz and hike up to the top, or you can drive up to the top and check out the views without breaking a sweat. Amazing views over the countryside.

Plenty of hiking and great views of Yadkin Valley. We saw a strange stone formation on a mountain as we were driving towards Mt Airy and we did not realize this state park takes you to the top. Glad we took the time off of...More

My wife, dog, and I have hiked on this mountain twice last year. It is worth the 90 minute drive from Chapel Hill and we will do it again this year (2019).

We took the Grindstone trail from the welcome center nearly up to the summit. Almost at the top, you want to turn right on to the Ledge Spring trail. This will take you to where all the rock climbers were located. We ate our lunch...More

A bit of a steep drive, but not until you get to the top and walk to a lookout can you get a clear view of the rocks. Quite worth the short walk, however, though it can get windy and cold quite fast.

There are several picnic tables adjacent to the parking lot at the top of the mountain. They also have charcoal grills available for some of them.
