More
This site is located on land once owned by the parents of James K. Polk, the 11th U.S. president. The state historic site commemorates significant events in the Polk administration: the Mexican-American War, settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the annexation of California. Reconstructions of typical homestead buildings—a log house, separate kitchen, and barn—are authentically furnished. The visitor center features a film on Polk's life and exhibits on his family and tumultuous presidency.

A short visit to the James K Polk birthplace is great for kids of any ages. The houses show just how lucky modern folks are with changes. There is plenty of open space for picnics, running around, craftsmanship. It's easily accessible from main roads.

We sometimes like to visit the site at mid-morning, then go directly next door to the Waldhorn [German] Restaurant for lunch. James Knox Polk, the first "dark horse" candidate for President in history, is an often overlooked President, but so much was accomplished in his...More

What a great memorial for this past president. There's a small Museum and also his cabin homes. A very nice wonderful historical site. It's well organized and well presented and the place is well-kept. Nice grounds.

I always like history, but we did not have a lot of time. This place was perfect! It was very informative without being too long. My husband enjoyed it and found the walking not a problem as some longer tours would be.

This is a great place to go if your looking for a short 'something to do'. The building houses some history as does the building yet allows a kid friendly environment. The staff was very informative and was happy to answer questions.

The renovated museum does a fine job of explaining regional history, as well as Polk's life, this issues of his time, and the public figures he interacted with. This small site is well worth a visit.
